Title: Need Some Help ><
Post by: Oprime on December 29, 2005, 01:31:40 AM
Ok.... I've done some extensive troubleshooting on this cheapo mobo that I got. I got it so I can use some of my spare parts (athonXP 3000+ and a 256MB stick of DDR400). Anyway when ever I run winXP outside of safe mode or from the BIOS >.> the computer locks up when ever I do anything close to being CPU intensive. An example of what I mean would be like starting program or anything not already installed by the windows installer.

Here is what this crap has
CPU: athlon XP 3000+
Ram: 256MB PC3200 DDR
HD: 80GB western digital ATA133
MOBO: Foxconn 748K7AA
PSU: 400watt

I checked the temps on this machine and they are at around 40c - 50c CPU and 30c - 40c System.
I know that's kind of high considering my main comp (check specs below :P) runs at about 30c - 32c CPU and 20c - 25c System.

Here's some info on the condition of the PSU tho I find it interesting
+3.3v@ 3.28v
+5v@ 4.78v
+12v@ 11.68v

I don't like where the 12v rail is going :'( cuz it's a brand new PSU. Just want to know what you guys think before I go out and buy a new mobo, case, PSU, and several fans >.>;

<_< I found that it works perfectly under safe mode. now when I run winxp normal it starts to lockup. I have no clue what it can be since this is a clean install. only thing I've installed is the dumb Drivers. I'm clueless. I even changed the PSU. The new PSU has a +12v rail running at 12.22v now but still locks up under normal windows. what the heck I don't know what to do with this thing now

:D I found the problem. Stupid motherboard wasn't very happy with the ram that I had placed in it. After days worth of troubleshooting I got it to work. because I don't have any extra ram chips around I used some of the DDR500 ram from my main comp. I'm still going to have to buy new ram for this old machine since I can't have my main box with 256MB of ram. Patriot (aka PDP sys) ram is the best so I'm gonna get the cheap stuff since this computer wasn't made for gaming.

*edit* Time to slap myself... /slap oprime. Seems the real problem was the video card which was overheating. Funny part is it wasn't doing that before and it has a new fan on it /sigh
