I was wonder if we would be able to build spacestation will be by componenet slowlyly or what?
To fact will we be able to choose how we want space station look like?
Of course that also let you able too research specific tech to get componentet.
Also before could build spacestition capabile build starship you have to have some orbital research labs to reseacrch stuff. so that you be able to design equpment to be able take massive space build on.
Maybe design could be some thing to aspair of what ShortHike game has or better http://www.shorthike.com/ (http://www.shorthike.com/)
In way I think this probly would has to be expansion pack thing for game since is kindy of major thing to add.
-
Space Station design is definatly worthy of an expansion pack. I played the ShortHike Demo and was appauled that someone would beg for $20 USD for something so simple... and lame.
BUT....
I do like the idea as a component for a larger game and I think it would work fairly well for an OP1 expansion... for instance, it could be used for economic reasons after the game has moved away from surviving and thriving and into rebuilding human civilization itself.
Oooh.... I'm getting some really good ideas now as to other expansion packs that could be added... Although I should probably focus more on the base game before thinking about other things, huh?
-
yea hehehe but reason post was so that if like then you can have in mind when you are working on your engine so don't has go back reedit code get too work.
once had somehow manage to get full version shorthide lol it tooo simply glad did not pay anything for it. I agreed with 20 not worth I rather get by other means or heck even programmed it myself :P before buy it. For can't that hard when no collision in it. :P
-
Hey nice ideas :)
-
yea idea would work for Geneses too.
-
Spacestations could be evac centers if your colony is about to get hit by a major disaster.
-
never thought of that for spacestations
-
They could theoretically double as evac centers but it would be far safer to move underground (the 'Evacuate' option through the AI in OP1) as the underground structures are about 100 feet underground.
Granted, if a meteorite strike consisiting of an asteroid the size of Texas landed on the colony, I don't think it would matter HOW deep you went, you're still screwed.
Anyway, It's a thought but it would be easier and safer to move 1000 colonists underground rather than into space.
If the game takes on an economic approach toward the end of it, Space Stations could be viewed as commercial exploits but I don't know how well that would fit into the whole Outpost genre of games... although basic economic growth would be something feasible (even suggested for OP3).

lol for astoriod big still doom cause didd supplied for new coloney in spacestation with you when evacu to it for astroid your still doom.
but does offer ineterest addition outpost if can detect big astoroid head of time enough you could send stuff up. if had availbe it should several turns to "" scan atmasphere to see if safe deploy new coloney head time

The phrase "The Never Ending Story" comes to mind... big asteroid... evacuate the planet. Start all over again... :-)
Basically, if there's an asteroid that big headed toward the planet you're going to WANT to leave the planet no matter what. Something of that size will shatter the planets crust for miles and will likely cause a massive fire storm that would destroy most surface structures as well as make the planet uninhabitable for months, possibly years, decades or even centuries (depending on the internal structure of the planet, its volcanic potential and at what angle/speed the asteroid impacts).
Basically, you have a huge asteroid coming in, you'd better run for your life. A large asteroid that was split into a 9-mile and a 6-mile piece caused enough damage on Earth to force an evacuation attempt... anything larger will just be a catastrophe.
Better get another ship built before that things comes down and gives everybody a headache.
-
lol, hey that a cool idea
create acampian made in such a way that it always change at least little bit but always at some point with big astoroid head toward your planet.
Depened on how close the completetion of spaceship to astoroid is to hitting the planet will determine how much technology you lose.(close 0= almost all technology lost). Also before the astroid hit the planet the ship you use get there falls to surface of planet. :P
-
Heh... that truelly would be a Never Ending Story situation.
-
But if you had score system with it, then it provide unlimited score mwhahaha
-
Yeah, but how would you find out about it, be warned about it, and what if you just physically couldn't build the ship in time? Not very fun...
Well, here's a possible warning: "OMG we are so dead."
-
lol guess then you lose,"You have failed to keep human alive"
hmm but my question is assumen small telescope then guess still barely enoungh warning for it.
-
Same way Earth did. Observatories and telescopes.
Of course, they detected it circa 1995 which is currently not the case but you never know what just might happen in 2045... :-) (OP's timeline for Earth's destruction)
-
ok so 50 years time hehehe to reasearch build spaceship :P
-
Actually, they started building the colony ship only a year or two before impact. The threat was completely ignored by the public until the leader of a large multinational conglomerate realized the gravity (no pun intended) of the situation and decided to do something about it.
And the rest is all history... :)
-
i think an op2 or op3 game based around starship design would be excellent.
-
keep in mind the origins of the OUTPOST series. I've said it a thousand times but it still seems that people forget about OUTPOST. :'(
However, the suggestions is a cool one. Stormy had proposed an addition to OP3 that allows for space-station design... I guess it's a possibility but I think OP3 will be fairly in-depth enough to not warrant it. But who knows where it'll go.
-
lol wow finnally have great idea yeaaaaaaaaaaa
2 year is not alot of time for starship. I not sure how fesible it is put a spacship together that quickly when think about how complex it is.
*hope on the starship & fly off to unknown destination*
