Title: What I did last night
Post by: OP2Patriot on June 19, 2003, 03:11:13 PM
Now, I can:

- never pay for a single lynx or tiger (25+ cheats involved with that)
- change rate of fires for every weapon to 20x faster than you can in one of the Dan cheats
- laser damage (yep, Super Lasers are a reality)

Hey, can you send me some of those cheats?  I was trying to open OP2_ART.bmp, but it didn't work. (Did you know you could crash your computer with a bitmap?  I didn't until today... It was kinda funny)

Well, if you know a a OP2 Hacking tutorial, let me know...

You used up too much space before trying to open it.  That's Why I always save pics as Jpegs.

Well, I can't help you with the BMP. Hacking tutorial, hmmm. I'd have to update it. A lot has happened since August.

You meen since last year?  I thought it would take you less time.

I have had other things to do since August, like school. Also, for a while, I was short on ideas, like in November, I thought for an hour I hacked all I could.

heck I could do all that, if I was able to decrypt the sheets.vol

Ive hacked the demo wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more than that

I was using the demo sheets as a guide. Did you know when you use the Dan's rapid fire cheat, the microvave rate of fire does not change the first time you use it? (Found that out at a cost of 20 minutes)

Also, did you know that there is concussion and penetration damage in Outpost 2?

What 'VOL' file are these settings stored in?  I just need to find the format, then I'll be ok.  Maybe I should get back to work....  (on OP3)
Title: What I did last night
Post by: OP2Patriot on June 25, 2003, 09:04:28 AM
The sheets.vol, but I think many here would prefer you to do OP3, and would hate me if I got you into hacking OP2.

I'll bug with the sheets.vol. It's compressed, not encrypted, because the EXE does make reference to columns.
Title: What I did last night
Post by: Betaray on June 26, 2003, 11:59:02 PM
so has anybody made a program to decompress the sheets.vol?
Title: What I did last night
Post by: gpgarrettboast on June 30, 2003, 10:22:54 AM
Ok, I dissassembled Outpost2.exe last night, and traced that program for two hours...  I found out that the program decompresses the Sheets.vol file right before you can play the game...  I will continue working on this at night.  I do OP3 Stuff in the day...
Title: What I did last night
Post by: gpgarrettboast on July 08, 2003, 08:53:58 PM
hehehehe.... I made my EMP's and RPG's change the firing rate to FF.  You can build an impassable EMP wall..
Title: What I did last night
Post by: BlackBox on July 09, 2003, 07:03:51 AM
I knew that. It loads all the game files (maps.vol, op2.clm, sheets.vol, sounds.vol, voices.vol, and the map and script) when you press the Start button on a tutorial, campaign, CG, or multi.

I also know the location of the code used to decompress the research topics.

I would trace the game more if I wasn't so lazy to go add a line to autoexec.bat to load softice, then have to restart, then take it out so it doesn't load again... :-(

garrett: Not trying to bug you or anything, but Phil could be right. You should do OP3... Unless you really have time to do both....

What debugger did you use?
Title: What I did last night
Post by: OP2Patriot on July 09, 2003, 10:51:04 AM
Seting firing rate to FF? That would make it slower! Set it to 0. Lot's of grenades per second.

so is the normal value 99 or something, and the new value is relative?
Title: What I did last night
Post by: CK9 on July 09, 2003, 03:32:17 PM
it would be cool if you could set it at a negative value.
Title: What I did last night

EMP is 256, and RPG 35, I think. I'd have to look it up.

Do you have an OP2 Editing Bible or something?

The d_sheets.vol. I should probably write a new hackning guide sometime. The one I wrote is outdated.

"The Outpost 2 Hacking Bible."

HUH? "He hacks for more?" You mean, my valiant efforts to create missions???????

Don't be dissing that, because no one else has ever gotten as far as I have in mission DLL editing/creating.

Someday It Will Work.

Guys who made op2 have goten all the way.
Title: What I did last night
Post by: Martynd on July 19, 2003, 05:45:54 PM
re reading it my message could be taken wrong way lol

i didnt mean hack the demo versions of op2 so the units were thors tigars, thats easy

i meant the demo levels of the full op2 (the 3 differnt demo levels where sutting is going on)

those are the levels i edited
Title: What I did last night

I doubt anyone would have caught that unless you said it lol
Title: What I did last night
Post by: BlackBox on July 25, 2003, 06:36:00 PM
Martyn, was that the one where you randomly changed bytes until you found the instruction that pushes the unit value?

Or did you go thru it with a disassembler and hexeditor?

I think it would be fun to edit the return value of InitProc so instead of
mov eax,1

we have
xor eax,eax

on the demo DLLs to see if it gives the "Could Not Initialize Game" message when they run.

Another thing I have found out, is that some of the Demo DLL support is built in to the EXE, that is, the demos don't have to create a victory trigger and condition... the game handles it for them.
Title: What I did last night
Post by: Martynd on July 26, 2003, 04:00:30 AM
that was the 1 where i randomly tried things

although for each unit i found i made note of it,. but i seem to have lost most of that *shrugs*

your way was more metodical lol

Watch out, I have a book in my house that tells how to build a 1000-Volt shock rod from junk electric parts (weird stuff, like coils and a buzzer) And best of all it runs on a 9v and apparently lasts 12 hrs at no load, I believe they said.

I can make my Emp's build a wall inpenatrable by anything!  I modified the fire rates, so they fire like 50 EMP's a second!  lol.  You set about ten up at 1 space apart, and Tada! you have an inpenatrable EMP wall.  :)

Title: What I did last night
Post by: OP2Patriot on October 03, 2003, 11:04:53 AM
I could penetrate that way, by using two methods. Death Button and weapon distance. Death Button is tempting.
Title: What I did last night
Post by: Betaray on October 03, 2003, 03:05:50 PM
do wep distance, than once you knock them out, than do the death button

btw you could do that with just normal, but you would have to have like 5 emp's per square, and time their fireing rates just right
Title: What I did last night
Post by: OP2Patriot on October 03, 2003, 07:05:31 PM
Actually, if garrett wasn't messing with weapon distance, Thors would be the solution.

Hmmm, I did some hacking today. I can hack how much can be held in a cargo truck. I also found a way to vaporize units! What you do is have their base number of hit points as a negative number, then if that vehicle has anything damage it, it just disappears. I also will look some into negative damage. Very promising!
Title: What I did last night
Post by: Punboy on June 02, 2004, 10:36:21 AM
Hehe... negative damage, if you shot yourself, could you increase your own hit points? :-p
Title: What I did last night
Post by: OP2Patriot on June 03, 2004, 08:44:13 PM
Well, what I meant was negative HP. As for negative weapon damage, I have not looked into that. I can imagine the shock of an enemy seeing that your Lasers are healing their crippled Command Centers.
