Hello, my name's Voyager7456. Moo.
I love Outpost 2, it's the first RTS I ever played. I was very shocked when I found out that there were still other people that played it too. A whole forum! :o
Needless to say, I'm thrilled.
I see that there's an Outpost 2 programming forum. I'm a modder, and I've always wondered if it was possible to mod Outpost 2. I'll have to check this out... ;)
When registering, I noticed there was a "Your favorite Outpost game" field. And inside, there were two games I've never heard of, Outpost 3: The Final Chapter, and Outpost: MIA. Could someone tell me what that's about? I'd love to find out more! :)
Finally, on a sadder note, as soon as I saw this site, I noticed there was a Outpost 2 Graphics Utility... thing. When I run it, I get an error: "Error loading PRT data"... what's wrong?
Well, this rather long welcome post is over. Hope to see you guys around. :D

Hello. Welcome.
The other Outpost games are fan made games and aren't finished yet. You can find sections on the forums about these.
The OP2_ART.PRT file is stored in Maps.vol. It has to be extracted first before the art viewers can read it. You can try looking through the file forum for the ReVOLver program used to extract it.
And if you're interested in modding the game, there lots you can do. One of the most basic things we need more of is extra levels. There's an SDK for download that will help with writing them, but you'll need a C++ compiler to get things working. The way Outpost2 was written probably makes it somewhat harder to mod, but you can also do a lot more, and it's a lot more fun to mod than most games.

Welcome to the Outpost Universe Voyager7456.
The Final Chapter and Outpost: MIA are fan-made Outpost games, but are not yet finished. There are other fan-made games which are not finish either, but hopefully some day.
the art-viewer needs op2_art.prt which can be extraacted from one of the .vol files (maps.vol afair) using the volextractor.

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome.
I downloaded the Outpost 2 SDK, took a look at it... seems very interesting, certainly far different from the type of modding I'm used to.
I'll have to experiment with it...
EDIT: Oh yes, I had a question... for some reason, my Outpost 2 will not let me select the radio buttons... (Can't choose easy, medium or hard, Plymouth or Eden, etc...). Does this have something to do with the installation of the update?

No, thats just windows Xp being....windows.
Right click on the desktop, go to properties, select the 'Appearance' tab, click on the 'Effects' button, then deselect 'Hide underlined letters for keyboard navagation unit'l i press the Alt key'. Then click Ok, and Ok again. Fixed :)

In other words: ...another quirck in windows XP...
gawd im happy with my 98SE (not that i really enjoy using it, but hey.. in lack of a better version of windows... maybe i ought to write my own OS someday :P )

Or you can just go with the simpler solution of hitting Alt. That should make the selection show up. At any rate, just clicking will still select, you just can't see it until you hit Alt, or go through those steps mentioned above.

Thanks again. :)

Welcome. Why doesn't anyone mention Hamachi around here? Yeah, it's a network system that you use to play mp op2. It's free, too.
