doesn't it need a www. in front of it?

Post by: OP2Patriot on May 31, 2003, 08:52:12 PM
It does not need a www . For example, type in google.com, and you get there without the Ws.

www is usually a link to the public_html folder or like the ht_docs folder.

Well, that's something, with school out, we are seeing more activity in this forum. I was right in my prediction that posting would pick up eventually. Ezekel and others were wrong, saying that the community is at its end.

you don't need www because the DNS records help specify that putting no subdomain points you to the IP of the server..... so does typing www....

The reason some servers won't work without the www is because they don't have the @ entry in their DNS record (Which, in many cases, they cannot edit because 'newbies' to web administration mess with the records and screw it up)

This forum is never gonna die. We won't let it.... this community has been around about 4 years and we'll make it longer....

Well, we as a forum are capable of going on in the long term. No matter what people say, we can make this forum live.

Within a month or two, I will introduce someone (my friend, Phil knows, "Rotary Dial" is his OP2 name) who will be a regular member/poster on here.

That is once he gets IE logging software.

I had an interesting day. I was volunteered without knowing it. Me very tired now. However, I did tell four people about Outpost 2. I had very short time, so I told them to search for philipu2001.

Betaray wonder why he wasn't on the top 5 poster list posted by xfir. The list was posted on June 3, before Betaray could have taken a  place on the list.

That isn't right, a newbie in 5th place. Either there is something wrong with the forum, or the newbie is not a newbie.

Well there is plans for a mass-email to be sent to all members that have joined this forum and those who are not here, to proclaim the server going public. That should bring back a lot of posters. There are other ways to get back posters too. I once posted at a OP2 Forum at some gamer site in May. Since then, there have been 37 views. That is potentially 37 people (including me) who saw the post saying that Outpost 2 is not dead, but alive at this forum. It would not be too hard to bring some people back, or to bring new ones here.

I think I saw that post.

As for mass email, do you mean thru like the NHCS?

First we send a mass e-mail through the Admin CP. Then we send one to those who did not register at this forum, like the people at the NHCS.

Philip, a suggestion about your website. How about a new navigation system that everyone can use?

I know that your "tree" would be easy in PHP, but I doubt your site can support PHP scripting.

Well, due to the fact I have 50 files on my account for the novella site, I have been reluctant to update it. (Prepares for xfir's offer to have novella site on his server)

My hosting plan can hold up to 500MB (including email and DBs).

You are welcome to host it here. PM me more for details. If you'd like, we can work out a way to get a PHP naviagtion system up.

I think at the moment, we are using 105 MB of storage. Of that, op2hacker is using the most, followed by the forum, then my folder.

Any time you'd like to look into joining the xfir Network, just contact me.

I guess I could say that if you know HTML, and have something at least remotely related to Outpost, I can host you.. there are multiple ways to contact me.
