I think that the irc chat room is too much trouble and too cumbersome to use. Everyone dosen't know how to connect to irc, with all of the new players coming it becomes too much of an hassle to set it up. But if their was an HTTP based chat site it wouldn't be as much as an inconvenience to go to....
Suggestions?
-
IRC is actually easy to set up if u get it from lev, u download it, extract it, and you are ready to go, except my connection has been making it almost imposible for me to use IRC cause it wont stay connected.
-
Don't you think a web-enabled chat room would have made it easier for you?
Hmmm.... Didn't you just shout " I hate IRC".....?
-
ok well
rarf
irc is not hard 2 setup.. prehaps i should write a guide for it.
i have a web based irc client. this is the solution, but it needs 2 b hosted on a web server which has a asp server.. i think. cuz its in asp files.
-
Okay... Are you talking about a dedicated website just for OP2 chat.. such as.... I dunno op2chat.com?
-
xamlit, i don't hate IRC, i just over react when a keep getting d/c, that has nothing to do with the way i have it set up, it has to do with my connection hopping.

me and xamlit have now talked over this on irc.
its sorted

k, that is a good thing, and i suggest to anyone with mod capabilities to lock this topic, but, not my choice.

try outpostuniverse.net/webirc/ (http://www.outpostuniverse.net/webirc/)
this 1 works tho : http://www.rlscnetwork.com/sharedresources/chat.html (http://www.rlscnetwork.com/sharedresources/chat.html)
(enter server as irc.quakenet.org and channel as #outpost2)

Why do you suggest that?
-
So no one can start a big arguement. I'll lock it until another mod decides, then they choose what to do.

I tried using that web-base IRC that Lev mentioned above, but I kept getting a connection closed. It would open for me. I'm a work, which is behind several firewalls, a DMZ, router's, switch's, hub's, and all sort of other stuff, but since it's web-based, I thought that it should work.

btw web based irc client
http://www.rlscnetwork.com/sharedresources...hannel=outpost2 (http://www.rlscnetwork.com/sharedresources/chat.html?ServerName=irc.quakenet.org&Channel=outpost2)

IRC is confusing. If you want a simple proggie that can connect to everything, get trillian.(connects to IRC,Y,AIM,ICQ,MSN)
http://trillian.cc/ (http://trillian.cc/)
In IRC I couldn't figure out how join channels, and it would't connect right sometimes(why?...not a clue.).
in Trillian you enter everything, then every time you login, you open the status window, connect, type "/join outpost2" and you're done.
It doesn't have some features though...but it has emoticons. :P Simpler, faster, prettier. :)

To join #outpost2 it's no different in IRC.
The join command for any IRC channel is: /join #channelname
so you'd use /join #outpost2
If it didn't work your IRC client was busted, or something.....
