Title: Forum Upgrade
Post by: BlackBox on October 22, 2026, 07:46:50 PM

Hey all, we've upgraded the forum software.

You may have seen the PHP security vulnerability that's been in the news lately. The forum runs on PHP, so we've upgraded the server and the forum to fully patched versions. All your posts, messages, attachments and settings came across.

Please log in again

The upgrade logged everyone out, and for a subset of users who haven't changed their password in a very long time, may require a password reset. If your password doesn't work, use Forgot your password? on the login page and the forum will email you a new one. That mostly affects passwords with accented or special characters, and some very old accounts.

What's new

  • The same New Terra look, rebuilt for the new version. It also works properly on phones now.
  • Syntax highlighting in code blocks: pick the language in the code tag, for example [code=cpp], [code=python] or [code=x86asm]. Code in older posts has been tagged too, and its tabs tidied up so the columns line up again.
  • Markdown: tick the Markdown box under the subject when you post, or use the Markdown button in the editor for part of a post. Headings, lists, tables, code fences and quotes all work. This post is written in it.
  • Drafts: posts and personal messages can be saved as drafts and finished later.
  • Modify on a post now opens the full editor, with the toolbar.

Fixing up old links

Links in old posts to the forum's previous addresses and to the old wiki now point at the right topics, posts and pages here and on wiki.outpost2.net. Links to pages and files that no longer exist were left alone.

Let us know on Discord, reply to this thread, or post in Feedback/Suggestions/Problems with the page address and what you saw. Screenshots help.
