In another poll it was unanimous to keep them (cept my vote of course which I dont mind), but was suggested to do some other nice things such as no light (can be hidden around the base like vehicles with no lights on), auto fire (normally they only explode if you manually blow them up) and increased damage (since they are stationary and can't move towards a target, being able to do more damage makes them great for a mine)
All three combined makes a hideable, auto-targetting and powerful trap or mine.

As mentioned in the other thread, sometimes players want to build self-destructing gps for tactical purposes. Automatic blow up would prevent this. Hence I want an option to turn it on/off per guardpost.
Also, auto blow up won't be perfect, because the gp will explode as soon as an enemy unit comes close. Would be more effective to wait until some enemy units have passes and some are still behind the gp (but all still in range).

I agree, though putting a timer on the explosion may mean that it explodes and no vehicle is hit. Though it can also mean in the event of a large attack, that it might hit and kill a whole bunch of units but not the first unit that got within range in the first place.

Selfdestructive gps as minefield will probably only work against careless players. Even at night, the attacking player will see the gps as soon as a vehicle with lights on comes close to one. And once there is day, the attacker can also see the gps. And most experienced players occasionally look at what their enemies do.

True, but it also means that they will approach said turrets carefully or go around. And if they do approach them carefully, you can send units into the fray from behind and catch them in a crossfire.

Buildings show up on the minimap regardless if they have lights on or not, don't they ?
-
No they don't actually, nor do vehicles. Its only when daylight hits them that they do show up.

Which is why cyan and yellow have such a huge advantage: they can sneak onto an ore beacon during the night cycle and not stand out on the mini map when the light comes on them,
