Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Vyper on December 02, 2003, 09:00:48 PM
Ok...I remember way back when I used to play with my friend online against computer controlled opponents, but now I can't remember how to set up a game that way. Can any of you point me in the right direction?

Is there a way to create a new mp map with the computer colony? Or to add one to another map?

Not yet. Sorry. (I've done a little work on that front though but haven't had any time to do anything much)

I just had an idea, the computer coloney is limited to very strict boundries, I dont even see vecs moving outside them unless their being attacked

would it be possible to "cut" the portion of the map that has the computer coloney out, and "pase" it somwhere else?

it would be a new map, but for all the computer knows, its La Corrida, that way we could have customized maps with computer coloneys at any part of it, mabe even more than 1, but the computer coloney would be the exact same as the La Coridda one

that might be a way to put computerized players in a costom map before we know how to build custom AI for new computer oponets

just an idea

why not just take them from 1 player maps as well?
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on December 26, 2003, 01:45:59 PM
that would also work

hacker could you do that?
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: BlackBox on December 26, 2003, 03:01:30 PM
You could do it, but it wouldn't be the most fun thing to do by hand (you have to go through where it creates all the units and change the coordinates)

Also, the number of computer colonies has a maximum....

You can only have a maximum of 7 players (the normal 6 colors (human or computer), plus black, which can only be created in the DLL file... so it's only good for computer players)

add 4 computer colonies to Axen's Home and make it a 3 player map

hmm, interesting.

I think the black color looks really weird in OP2..
(None of you have seen it yet, but just wait)

In the black color, where the color on the units normally goes, there is just black.. one shade of it. (Sort of like the "black units" in starcraft)

thats pretty cool, later on when we can change the AI we can make that one the most aggressive coloney

achelly we probly could, just take the coloney from a coloney game on hard, expecially ply starship 2, so that it searches for other coloneys, and attacks them

just make it so there is enough time to get some defence up.

Can it be possible to use a map editor to work around the computer?

Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on January 18, 2004, 06:55:17 PM
thats what I was thinking of, keep the area where the computer works the same, but you can change the other parts of the map, with the games, the computer gives you time to build up normally, and with the accelaration of the multy, you should be able to have a defence with plenty of time to counter the first attack

i think it may be posible, if ur talking about the bots in the multi already, but if ur talking about bots from the single, i think u will have to wait untill someone reaslese a .dll editor. (i think hacker or patriot is working on one)
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: selfdestruct on January 18, 2004, 10:40:01 PM
how long would it take to complete a map like that, besides the cut and paste map editor is there another way?
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: plymoth45 on January 18, 2004, 11:31:30 PM
i make completely custom maps, i don't use copy/paste
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Leviathan on January 19, 2004, 08:13:34 AM
ive made a totaly new custom map for the New Maps Pack 2 which im working on.
i loaded pie and copy and pasted tiles from it to make my map. map making would take far 2 long if u didnt use copy and paste. Plym, i suggest u learn 2 use it, otherwise ur take 4evea 2 complete a map.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on January 19, 2004, 11:48:12 AM
that troo, but I think he means copying the computer coloney and pasteing it on the custom map

btw, even with hackers new map maker, I still dont see how you can place mining tiles, and if you cant do that, your pretty much screwd
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Leviathan on January 19, 2004, 12:47:00 PM
for map making, u work around the mines and the colony location.
u have to make the map around the dll.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on January 19, 2004, 12:53:56 PM
ahh, so in that same system, you can work around the computer coloney right?
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Leviathan on January 19, 2004, 12:58:33 PM
yea easly, just leave the terrian where they r flat.
u have 2 use the dll with the comp in, eg peacekeeper or la corr. both crap maps imo. need a 128x128 map with a comp on.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on January 19, 2004, 01:03:15 PM
so we can have different versions of la coridda, and piecekeeper, that may be fun
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: plymoth45 on January 19, 2004, 02:26:59 PM
well, i like the 128x128 maps better, but yea, basicly u can have dif versions.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on January 19, 2004, 02:48:49 PM
no that I remember it, hasnt sombody made different versions of La Corida?

actually, lev, as long as u know where the tiles u want are(which i do, so np) it wont take ages to do.

I have team La Cor, but I can't find the original anywhere. Could someone give me link? And does bots really work because that would be nice for those days theres no one to play.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: kirby on April 16, 2004, 04:46:50 PM
I know this is a kind of late post, but there are a couple maps made by some random person that we have all forgotton about (infected ear and rotten pie). In other words, piechart and earlobe with a computer player in the center...

of course, these arent really worth noting, because they are just the lacorrida dll files tacked onto the other maps. If you want, i think these maps are included in the new maps pack 4 (i know plymoth has it) thou i'm not sure.

In multiplayer maps with bots, you still have to have one other human player to start it.

I wonder if there's a way to get around this... or change a multiplayer map into a colony game.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: ttamdude on April 17, 2004, 03:22:35 PM
why would u want to? even with the AI starting out with so much more than you.. it takes all of mark 170 to be able to kill him... easiest AI ever introduced...
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: CK9 on July 13, 2004, 04:28:18 PM
maby you, ttam (yes, I know it's an old topic)

takes me until mark 200 to get enough units to have a 50% chance of getting to the CC, let alone destroy the colony.
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on July 13, 2004, 08:26:36 PM
but also, now that we have people with the ability to decompress the .dll's would it be possible to change the computer AI, among other things (where mining becons are placed, layout of AI coloney, starting locations of player coloneys and the like?)
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: CK9 on July 13, 2004, 09:05:27 PM
beta, decompression may be possible, but it still is in code
Title: Bots in multiplayer
Post by: Betaray on July 13, 2004, 10:46:33 PM
no, a person at the forums ( I forget his name, has found out how to decode the .dll files and the .sheets vol for op2, so he can modify every single aspect of the game
Title: Bots in multiplayer

must take hours
Title: Bots in multiplayer

No matter how long it takes, it would still be cool to do, and it might even set up for using in the new OP games.
