I'm not asking if you like OP2's music. I'm asking how important it is that you have the CLM installed. After all, most missions have a special soundtrack specified that helps influence the "mood" of that mission. The soundtrack the programmer chose for that mission is an important aesthetic aspect of the level.
So, do you prefer listening to what the level designers wanted you to hear, or do you pick your own soundtrack?

well, to hear your own soundstrack during play just open the WMP (Or any other player) and zero op2 music =P

First time through, it's important to listen to the level track. After that, you have an idea of what song will help you focus on the mission goals.

i think w/o music, the repetitive sounds of me clicking different buildings would drive me nuts....

I love the music for OP2. It's very well suited for the game and really does set the ambiance. I think the gameplay would have a very different feel without it. The composer, Charles Barth, also did the music for Cyberstorm 2, another Dynamix title, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as the music in OP2.
The music in Renegades is also fantabulous. :D

I have the OP2 music on my playlist. :)
I think it's important. Any game designer will tell you that music is as important as the scenery.
