Hey everyone! A few of us have been planning a reunion! The OP2 Super Special Satisfactory Sapient Superior Sensationally Superlative Summer Shenanigan Smash! Yeah, we like the letter S. Live with it. ;)
Anyways... For those of you who don't know, a reunion is when we all get together and play OP2 nonstop for 3 days. A bunch of old members tend to come back and find time for a few games, too, so it's generally good times for all. The current plan is to have the reunion sometime in late July or early August. So, think of it as Summer Camp, except you actually enjoy the experience.
We'll probably stick with the old formula of releasing a new update to OP2 (1.3.5, and we have plenty of good stuff to give you this time!) and encouraging people to develop new content and whatnot. Myself, I'm working on a new techtree, if you didn't notice. So if you want to contribute, we welcome everything!
But I should mention, please, please, PLEASE[/i] don't rush any projects to meet the Reunion deadline. We prefer quality more than quantity. Bug test anything you produce before you submit it to be included in the next OP2 update.

The reunion will be held on IRC. We aren't actually physically getting together, because that's expensive.

Yes Yes! I won't miss it this time! I'm already err 'training' for it :P I'm horrible at op2 but definitely getting better. I wouldn't mind a game now actually.

So what date do people think is best? When can they make it online?
July 11th - 14th
July 18th - 21st
July 25th - 28th
August 1st - 4th
We don't want it too soon as we want a build up to it and to make sure everyone knows about it.

As much as I hate those dates, I guess I can make an extended appearance. Hopefully I can get everything working properly for it.
Gives me an excuse to work on my big map again, though I'm going to have a lot of horridness with tile-matching until the auto-placer thing that was being talked about is added into an editor.

Hmmm I'm not too sure about any of those dates, so i'll save my vote for later. Quick question... Around how many people go to this reunion every year?

A lot, assuming we can get a newsletter out to everyone in time.
But we'd need BlackBox to do that, and he doesn't really seem to care about having a reunion.

Eh, I never said that. I think a reunion would be a great idea.
Probably will be less new content (with a lot of people busy / not around) but that's not necessarily a bad thing (it will let us do a lot more "quality control").
I would suggest at the minimum:
- OP2 1.3.5 (with some of the new patches that have been developed, as long as they get sufficiently tested)
- New IRC version (whatever the newest versions of mIRC / NNS are).
It would also be nice to get the website looking nice again.

Yes new website would be great as well as the other things. And yeah once we have a date sorted we should think about geting a newsletter sent out.
And op2rules. These are not a yearly thing. We have done a few of them at random times since 2003.

Hey, everyone! Slight change in plan...
Because it's hard to schedule one weekend for everyone, the last week of August (yes, the entire week) will be the Reunion!

Well I like this idea and I should be around for it :)
Also we should make the end of the week (29th - 31st) the main reunion time but yes a whole week is great.

Next weekend (starting October 10th) shall be the Reunion, for I decree it as such. Be on IRC as much as possible that weekend or you will be forced down a Magma Vent and then harvested as Rare Ore.

Okay, so it was more of a Fall Reunion. But, I'd say it was a huge success, considering I basically decided "Alright, we're having a reunion" less than a week before we had it. We should have another one (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=4348) in a few months (around Christmas, maybe?) and get the word out ahead of time.
