I just had a fantastic experience in IRC, wherein I refused to play with Paco, as it has been suggested on the forums (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=4117 for instance), and was basically flamed by everyone (yes *everyone*) for approximately 3-5 minutes. I'm posting this to provide an solid example of why "don't play with them" doesn't work other than the obvious reason that the community is too small. We could really use some sort of ranking system for player quality/morales/etc. Honestly, if this keeps up I'm going to say "f*** it" and not play at all and just idle in IRC or leave all together. so w/e.
tl;dr - No negative consequences for being an asshole here, thats bad for the community, we need some consequences.
PS: I have the log, and intend to post it as soon as I figure out how to post files (pasting it into the forum seems like a bad idea).

Try the file forum, though it does seem pretty pointless to have two separate topics for one issue...
Yeah, Paco flamed me for an hour (okay, maybe less than an hour) a few nights ago because I wouldn't play with him on stupid Pie Chart.

A personal thing with paco cant be turned into a community problem unless enough people complain about it.
Truth is you cant ban some one for being a ass. But there are some things that he has said that do cross the line. So I am going to leave it at that.

Umm, I kind of think that can be sufficient grounds.

Maybe not, but flaming is against the rules...
-
yes flaming is against the rules and like i said I have seen some of the things he says. But here in lays the problem. AS soon as we ban some one or kick them the community all comes together at this point to tell us we are wrong and we are jack asses. It just makes things so messy. If he needs to be kicked or banned it will happen.

Well... rules are NOT meant to be broken. rules are meant to keep a civilized order around. And the rules we have for flaming and related stuff are good enough and should be applied when needed. The community pretty much has no right to tell you you did wrong when you're just enforcing some rules people accepted when they joined this community...
Right?

Well put.
I think ops need to worry less about public opinion and just do something when they feel something needs to be done. Otherwise moderation is just plain ineffective. Not that I should speak, since I almost never do anything, and often don't even read the main channel unless someone gets my attention. But, I throw in my support for the ops that are more attentive and actually do something useful. I trust their decisions, and I don't think they need to be so self doubting sometimes.

Well I dont think as a community we are big enough to have a system like this.
Flameing is not good. People like to play different and maybe not with everyone, all are welcome. You should not get flamed for not playing!
I dont see any reason with not posting the log?
