Title: Linux Woes
Post by: Marohen on July 08, 2007, 12:31:31 AM
I have a friend who runs completely on Linux... how do you get OP2 to work with WINE on it? Or is there a ported version?

Thanks, oh, yeah, and I'm new here. (Yey)

You can't. Sorry.

It "works", but not very well at all. Just ask op2hacker. I think that's why he ended up switching from Linux back to Winbloze.

OP2's networking code will not work in WINE.

So you will need windows or need to virtualise.

I heard that actually in the newest versions of WINE that the network code will work (somewhat), and not hang...

I think if you want to play OP2 on linux right now, you're probably best off just installing something like QEMU or VMware and installing windows onto that.

Was Linux even in existence when OP2 was published?

Yes, version 0.02 of the Linux kernel was released in 1991.  Version 1.0 in 1994.

Although it was in a very young form.

If you're talking about the modern form with a GUI...oh boy. :P

Yeah I'd suggest trying OP2 with each new release of WINE (which are pretty frequent) - things can magically work. Over a year/two ago, TA was able to work fine. And I recall OP2 working pretty good.
