I think it would make the game more interesting if there were a shirmish mode selectable on the main menu hub. Be able to play, oh lets say up to 4 AI, different difficulties, battle stratagies, things of that nature. :op2: Just a thought.

That's essentially what the colony games are, except the built in ones were only given at most one AI.
... you could try looking into making your own. :)

I wanted to just build a sandbox, but I never got around to it. Not sure if I'll be able to spend the time soon either. *sigh*
It would be nice if you could real time drop a pile of enemy units somewhere and have them head for your base. Then you could fight when you feel like it, or not.

I've always thought it would also be nice to play multiplayer maps against AIs.
I'm not a people person, and to this day I have never managed to play a single multiplayer mission. There is just too much coordination involved getting other people who want to play at exactly the right time and place.

Yeah get learning and coding. Its great fun :D

I had once thought of a multiplayer game idea with one attacker and one defender. The defender would have a base to defend, and must try to stay alive as long as possible. The attacker could drop reinforcements on the map to try and storm the other person's base. The location and types of units would somehow be selected by the attacker, so the defender couldn't just reinforce all their entry points and make it hopeless. I was thinking it'd be cool to add in game menus to select where you wanted reinforcements, and what kinds. But, I don't really know how to code something like that. The idea came to me after seeing some code that appeared to control the menu in game when you selected units, but I never really did have the time to figure it out, and the idea would require so much work anyways that I just never bothered.
So yeah, not quite the same ideas as yours Whiteclaw, but sort of similar.
I suspect these ideas would be easier to do (especially adding AI into arbitrary levels), if we decided to rewrite the game or something. It's a little hard to work with the current interface to build a decent AI. Well, actually, it's hard under any circumstances really, but it's especially hard with the current setup.

I have an old Castle sim called "Lords of the Realm 2" that had a selectable skirmish mode. You could select the castle you wanted to defend (or attack) and you had X number of points to spend on units. The attacker (or defender) also had a set number of points to spend. Some units were worth more than others. You basically had to storm or defend the castle as appropriate with your hand picked army.
Obviously not something easily modifiable for OP2...

lol, I got that as a 2-game pack with OP2
LotR2 is awesome, but there's a bug on the map Yingyang. If the Knight is the color black, he makes a huge army and marches it into the sea, rofl

I think ill probly try to make a multiplayer AI map / scenario and see what I can come up with because not only is it a good way to practise for some people, its also alot of fun =] (thumbsup)

I think I remember that. I was panicing setting up my defenses and wasn't really paying attention to what he was doing. Next thing I know, I won...
(uh oh, better look out. We're getting off topic again... )
Sometimes I just really like to play and build a huge base. Create different designs and layouts. It would be nice to be able to do that on one of the starship or colony maps without being harrassed by the computer.
Good luck with your multiplayer AI, Err.

thanks =] and ill be sure to let you know
