By the statistics of many stores and gameshops, more and more people are asking for old games.
Thant means that the F.E.A.R or CC generals have been replaced by free, old, good games (thumbsup)
The most sold and downloaded games are Prehistoric, Pacman, Raptor, Supaplex, Outpost, (wow) Warzone 2100 ,Incredible Machine, blast doors...
It's kinda good becuse people are spending way toooo much money on icreasingly expensive and boring games (boring becuse of cheats, graphic needs and need-to-register-to-play stuff)
Is it true that Old games=good Games?
-
nope just said that new game lately are being made is not good enough for people see worthy of buying them.
-
people are ionterested in classic games because of things like GameTap.
-
GameTap?
What is that?
-
Raptor is a pretty good game, I remember playing the demo years ago
-
Yeah, Raptor was fun.
CK9 - I don't believe its got much to do with GameTap (I've never used it myself and only heard about it when people from OPU were talking about it either on the forums or IRC). And remember, Mame32 has been around for quite a while.
I agree with OmegaAlpha's comment that a lot of new games these days aren't that hot. I'm yet to find a game that I love as much as some of the old ones I do (ie Outpost 2 - of course, Final Fantasy VII)
General, WC3, Flatout2 and Prey are fun, but OP2 requires a lot more brains, and the Duke is always fun to Nukem with :D
I believe the same is happening with movies - I haven't seen a good, original movie for a while (by original I am also excluding book/game movies - ie LotR, Narnia, etc - which were quite good movies)

Dude. You guys know about Raptor? I thought I was the only one who played that. I bought it at this really old and backward electronics store back in like 1994. I still play it.
HINTS: Beating the game starts the campaign all over again and lets you keep the money you earn. Spend all your cash on Shields. You will need them. Buying the Auto-Track Minigun is one of the most important weapons to have in your arsenal. You can avoid all enemy fire by working within the physics of the game. Since the minigun tracks all targets and auto-fires, all you gotta do is avoid the enemy fire. Also, make sure the first thing you buy when you start the game is the emission scanner. Raptor has a bug in which if not purchased, you wont be able to fire. The unit also displays an enemy health meter. So you pretty much need it. It really should have been autoequipped.
If anyone wants raptor I can hook them up. Its shareware so its not illegal to distribute. You only see an ad when you quit the game. Its made by the people who went on to make Unreal and a couple guys from DOOM owned the company: Apogee.
Fallout2 is the best RPG Ive ever played or will ever play.

I don'tthink you understand what I'm saying. Things such as Game Tap have made the older games available to people. Because of this, they get curious about what the classic games are, and they look them up. After reading about the games, people think that it might be fun and go out and look for them in stores rather than give money to a large company.

ONLY to Americans though. So its not really that great for everyone else.
-
Mechwarrior 2. Got it at Goodwill for 2 bucks, great game (though has to be played on DOS due to XP's horrible dos emulation).
Ended up having to go back to Goodwill for a cheap analog joystick since my digital joystick won't work in DOS.
And also: Chip's Challenge. one of the first windows games i played. Can remember playing it on a 386 with win3.1. Great game, and I still have a copy.
and of course: Outpost 2. The best game of all time.

Here's to hoping Bethesda won't f*** up Fallout 3.
Though, they probably will. :/

Yeah, true - but I'm in Aus, so I don't get GameTap....
I found this website before that was selling Abandonware (games that have been abandoned by their dev's) through PayPal... would have been so cool if it was free - there are tons of old games on that site. If I remember the address - I'll let you know :D
Never played Fallout2. Heard about it though.
-
lol, home of the underdogs is the biggest abondonware site on the web. Outpost2 is listed, but because Sierra was an ESR (or watever it is) member, they can't post a download

Chip's Challenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chip%27s_challenge)
Meridian 59 is a good classic MMORPG; it has reached its 10th anniversary last Wednesday. I also hope to play System Shock, though it is rare to find it in stores. I came across its sequel (System Shock 2) with a bit of luck when visiting a game store.

i hate games these days, its basicly FP war games , movie games, or sequels that have no new stuff.
my favorite games (old, and best) are:
Doom 1+2
Red alert 1
Raptor (i put the Bass on my speakers half way up and my house rumbles \:D )
uh..
commander keen 1-5
descent (i lost my cd, i cant play it)
Duke nukem 1,2,and3d
thats my partial list, cant think of others.
BTW: They dont make enough games like:
DOOM- running around and splattering things? THATS FUN!
Red alert- you can play as the Soviets and take over the world. Call of Duty: Axis Powers anyone?(That would be SO evil!!!)
-
I've seen System Shock before, but never played it.
Terminator: Future Shock (I think thats the name...) was a good ol' game that I played on my 486 a few years back.
Descent was a decent (:P) game too :D
-
descent (i lost my cd, i cant play it)
WOOT! DESCENT ROCKS! I still have my CD, and the Aniversery Pack. You got a CD burner? I can upload an ISO to my site this weekend so you can get it =)

Basicaly, now everyone tryes to better than anone else in something that is not very important: GRAPHICS, OP2 is a good game, not becuse of the graphics, becuse of the story, units, anything, but not graphics.
Take for example Blitzkrieg 2. (Blitzkrieg 2 sucks becuse of no new units)
Movie games are for FPS not for Strategies.
Blitzkrieg 1 was good becuse of no-pan of camera, zoom in and out simple graphics and dead soldiers stay DEAD not fall in ground.
too big graphics = more money to spend (thumbsdown)

a good game is a game with good game play!
