Hey, those panthers are uselles!!!
They aren't fast
They have not a decent armor
They cost TOOOOOO much
They have not weapon upgrade
THEY ARE USELLES.
Maybe it was better to make....COBRA or Cheetah or Lion.....
-
I have always wanted a new "Kitten" chassis..
While we're at it.. why not a "Sabre-tooth Tiger" or a "Black Panther" ?
-
good idea, but what about.... (Black) Mamba, Dragoon, Shark, Sharkoon?
-
lol, you guys sound rediculous. Panthers are a great defensive vehicle, they've saved my ass during the days of WON a few times, especially on La Corr
-
when their hp are upgraded they take the same common as a lynx and very little rare, so upgraded it has the same armor as a tiger and only 100 less hp
btw, Savant 231-A, I suggest you run your posts through a spell checker before you post them, or at least re read your posts, I mean I can't spell, but damn!!
and oh yea, highlander was being sarcastic
-
I agree with CK9 the panther is a great defence unit because of its speed and armor vs lynx. But onlce people have tigers the panther has to take the back seat.
Whats with these Cat names that are like 2 words or longer?
Lion Cheetah Puma Bobcat Cougar Jaguar Leopard (spelling on that one lol) simple names seem to work best. And the combat units other then the arachnids have cat names. better to stick with them instead of snakes or birds.
-
Thanks for clearifying my sarcasm Bet :)
Got a little worried when I read Savants reply hehe
-
Freeza, the tiger is no defensive unit, therefore it still plays it's role. The Tiger is a machine of death, it's ment to be in the front lines right behind the lynx. The lynx clear the path, the tigers go in for the buildings. It almost seems like the panther was designed to be a defensive unit. It can outlast the lynx and can hold its own against tigers
-
I say we just recycle all combat units and create the mighty Mouse chassis, and arm it with the fearsome Football Launcher.
Yes, I did just alliterate. Or attempted to...

Great defensive vehicles???? HAH!!! when I played on LAN my friend destroyed my base with 4 microwave lynx, and I had 3 RPG panthers!!!!
Still: Panteher = Useless!!!!
-
well we had a thread proposed to increasing the speed of a panther to help balance it, but from what I could see the general consensus was no
-
ESG Panthers + Army of enemy tigers = PWNT
They've got the speed to stay ahead of the tigers and the armor to take a couple hits.
Plus it's easier to make a swarm of them than tigers. In my first colony game I had an army of tigers and sent em up against Plymoth. Bastards EMP'd them all and sent them back at me.
I went back with Panthers. Kicked their red asses.

this is too funny to be real.
-
Panthers do have their place. I typically don't use them because I rely far more on Guardposts to hold the defencive line and focus more on offence with my units.
Plus Guardposts arn't affected by ESG. So if somebody attacks me with a mostly ESG/EMP army, those few GPs are gonna eat them up like a fat kid to pizza.
(No offence to anyone ment here)

Learn how to use the damn panthers or shut up. How about that? You learn how to use them then see how good they are and what there used for.

That just shows that you suck at OP2
The RPG turret has a harder time auto-targetting for some reason, and should not be used as a defensive weapon. If you had used EMP and ESG panthers, he would have been owned
-
When the Panthers get they speed improved, they can be quite useful. And when they grab the armor of a tiger... god help us...
-
Panthers are a balance of Lynx and Tigers:
lynx are fast, but are low in armor, and have weak(er) guns
Tigers are slow, high in armor and shoot fast
panthers's speed is all right, it has good armor, and fires slower than a tiger but stronger than a lynx.
personally, I use panthers in conjunction with guard posts.
-
I still dont know why the speed upgrade for panthers was shot down. Im not saying in the original op2, or even standard in multi. But when you make a map and/or tech tree, and you include the tiger speed modification and tigers are FASTER than panters, thats just not cool. It was a suggestion for people who make maps to include a panther speed upgrade to keep panthers faster than tigers. Also, i just realised that panthers cost just as much common as lynx, so if your in a game where theres not alot of common *cough*axenshome*cough* you get a better unit for defending or a big frontal assult for the same amount of common. And yes panters do cost some rare, but if you have rare and your building lynx, your not using the rare anyways where if you were building panthers you would be making use of the rare. So mabey they DO have SOME use.

Anyone ever notice that "Panther" in the topic title is spelled wrong?

yes ;)

I've come to a conclusion. Panthers are useless. People just research them to get EMP and Rail/RPG. After that, people jump to tigers. Panthers are sorelly ignored.
-
I think panther got a + it is faster than thor almost as durable ( 100 hp differences or so...)... the fact that they are faster mean a lot IMO because if your tiger are really weak the time you actually go foward to the front line he canmass a bunch of lynx and own you and since tiger reinforcement take time to arive he can destroy your main force with ease.

How do you compare a vehicle's speed and hit points with a weapon's rate of fire and damge? (Okay, maybe a little sarcasm there.)

The tiger speed modification was possibly more of an easter egg than anything. Furthermore it only applies to a few maps. It's not like every map has a wreckage for Tiger Speed Modification.
Thus in a general case panthers are faster. I think the main reason people don't use them is a general stigma that "Panthers suck" and they just go straight for tigers. You could make a sizable difference if you built panthers as soon as they were available.
Also, if you are in a case with very little rare ore (i.e. maybe just a 1-bar) then Panthers are more cost effective than Tigers. in other words, more bang for the buck.

*orders an RPG panther strike upon your CC*

panthers are like ultramodified TV reporter vans... respect them!
-
LOL you make that one to?
-
yes
its in the other thread too
-
Panthers are not useless just know how to use them better yeah maybe they don't have the 2nd turret of the tiger or speed of lynx but you can get them a good time before tigers can be built and they are a decent speed but big thing is the Hit points lynx even with armor upgrade will get rocked in a heavy weapon fire fight panthers with HP upgrade can stay in one for a bit longer those few seconds may alter the flow of battle tipping it in your favor so don't be ready to toss them out the window because they aren't used correctly
