The user interface, while not very important at this point in development, will probably be THE issue most argued and debated and mud slinged...
The UI in OP2, while not the worst I have seen, still had much to be desired. I spent a lot of needless clicks going from mission objectives to seeing how many people I had alive or to the research list for a lab. There is also a bit of waisted space where there is no information presented and is just black.
So, any ideas/suggestions/accusations?

Hmmm I'm thinking something a bit more.... "clear" if you will. Floating images/icons with maybe a border, and floating text instead of having a frame type deal.... but that's just me :). Nothing official

Here's an idea: Let the user design their own UI, using scripts / templates / whatever.
-
Thats a good idea, hacker. Just give everyone a certain amount of space, and let them decide where they want their buttons and how they want info displayed. We could create a small, separate program with an easy "UI Creator Wizard" for those of us who aren't script-literate. :)

it needs all the standard things of a rts. control groups/buildings etc.
side bar mayba u can chose which side you want it on, and even be able to have it as a bottom bar like in some rts games.
having a custom UI kinda would give u a advantage over the person with out one but it is a nice idea.
also changing of hotkeys is a good idea.

I like the custom UI, but I think that should still be a default UI that can access most if not all the information available to the player. The custom UI would only change the way or amount of information is presented. The people who win should win because they are smarter players, not because of how well they can script.

Yeah, hence the UI creator program that would make it easier even if you dont know how to script.
-
A gui creator programm would be nice, but not necessary. I don't see why we would put develpment resources into this.

yea its more of a later thing that could be added.
