Vehicles that can survive driving through Lava
Originally proposed by Highlander (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=2067&st=0entry37736)
Related ideas:
- vehicles that can pass over hills (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=2734)
- lava cooling down (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=2737)
Description:
Vecs moving through lava. Have really heavy hull.
Would continually lose hitpoints.
Would be very slow.
This is a bad idea, because:
- would have to be made off material that makes it invulnarable to certain attacks (impact weapons).
- is there a metrial that withstands up to 3k°C and can be produced in sufficient amounts?
- air transport is a better way to get units over lava.
-
I would like an air unit better, and yes there is a material that can survive lava.
-
A solution to that is a bridge that would be built by earthworkers but it would require the bridge to be built BEFORE the lava flow began because it would need to add support structures in order to support the construction of the center piece. Or you could have an earthworker on each side.
Also you could possibly retrofit an SULV to fly a horizontal direction (like a cruise missile) and drop a vehicle with a reverse thrust system. Hey it's unmanned no worry about G-Forces.
A third solution is to create a hover vehicle look in vehicles.
-
Bridges have been discussed before and are buried under the pile but i think the bridges were shot down because it would make getting to some one base alot easier and if the bridges were spammed with tigers there would be no stoping them. Lava is hot and when it cools its rather hard to traverse over. Your not going to drive through lava its going to melt well every thing.
-
If this would be a problem then put in a weight limit of like 4 tigers or equivilant can be on the bridge at one time. And as for melting the bridge there are materials that can handle the heat. And about the bridge being destroyed- use a volley of gun fire from your longest range vehicles. Or blow it up with starflares or super nova's.
Also you could have it so that when it takes damage it can't hold as many vehicles.

The hover tank is a good idea since it is capable of traversing lava.
I see no problem with it when both sides can have it.
Good ideas are
Lava terrain will not seperate colonies totally.
Allow a fast reaction for defense.
Is a relatively well distributed vehicle.
Isn't all powerful.
This vehicle doesn't use a bag to hover it uses another method. ALSO IT ISN'T SCIFI because we already have prototype models in science labs.

idea shot down give it rests.
As idea of this thread I like see more description for it.

Closed by me its clear no one wants the idea in the game
(looks around for genesis team)

Freeza is right.
The original idea is not realistic enough. (even if one could build this vehicle, it would cost lots of resources and would be super heavy, thus outbalance the game)
Sadly, most of this thread is offtopic. This thread is about vehicles driving THROUGH lava - not over it - and it is not about bridges.
