a basic lab holds the 5 basic research topics (the ones from the campaigns: boptronics etc..) PLUS all other non-researchable topics. These include the Tiger speed modification.. check out Tech files and find LAB 1 research topics :) to know what they are.

Tiger speed modification?
is that only for Eden? I don't remember seeing that one
-
You only get the Tiger Speed modification if you find a wreckage on one of the LR maps.
What other researches there are I have no idea.
Care to fill it out Eddy ?

The Tiger speed mod is the only 'hidden' research of that sort. There are other researches in the tec-file, but they are either stuff you get anyway (Costs = 0) after researching the required technology or stuff that isn't of any use (ie. no benefits).

Basic lab only contains:
Astronomy
Boptronics
Chemistry
Planetary Sciences
Social Sciences
Researching these gives Standard Lab.
Tiger speed modification is only placed within to allow it to be "Researchable" when you get the wreckage. Since Basic Labs are only available on mission 2 of the campaigns (both, it dosn't change) this isn't really a concern.

hmm I have two more techs that you can research and I can build a standard lab before I research a thing

Okay, the Basic Lab can only be obtained in a colony game via the wonderful All Units/Structures cheats and there is only one research item, Tiger Speed Modification. This is available in both Eden and Plymouth. The other five topics that are being referred to can only be obtained in Campaign.
Anyways, there are only two ways to get Tiger Speed Modificiation ... and the one no one has mentioned is the method of cheating to get a basic lab. (Oh my, what a terrible crime)

There was a tech file posted in the file forum that allowed for basic labs in colony games. It required you to research those 5 basic techs first before you can get a standard lab. Once you've researched them, you can build a standard lab, and can't build a basic lab anymore. But at that point, there is absolutely no reason to have one anymore.
The tiger speed modification was also moved so it couldn't be researched from the basic lab. Instead, you either got it from wreckage, or you got a precursor tech from wreckage that allowed you to research the upgrade at an advanced lab. It all just depended on how the level designer wanted to set things up.
And you're quite free to produce you're own tech tree for new colony games. It's not that hard to figure out how the file works and either modify it, or create a new one from scratch. Mind you, the file is pretty huge, so you probably don't want to build one from scratch.

Yeha the tech file for my survivor map allows you to start wiht a basic lab and you must do all teh research in it to get a standard lab. also the tiger speed modification is made to everyone and is available for research at the advanced lab

Basic Lab technologies:
- Astronomy
- Boptronics
- Chemistry
- Planetary Sciences
- Social Sciences
- Children's Module
- Evacuation Module
- Tiger Speed Modification (multiplayer only)
(It depends on which tech-file you use)

I thought you couldn't even build a basic lab after you have a standard lab researched?
-
You can't. Why?
-
coz it's coded like that: the moment u gain the standard lab - you loose the basic lab.
-
I knew that, I was asking why he wanted to know.
