i had LONG ( and i mean realy LONG ) discusions with levi and hacker about getting more ppl here. and i realy think we should do it now >.> . :D just letting ppl know we exist.
as levi discribed it :
" one day of spamming all the forums of everthing we can find"
XD
levi's main resean why we havnd done it is cous the fact that there is no good solution to multiplayer games
-
i sure do wanna spam lots of forums and try and get more people but i just dont think were ready.
we need a more complete wiki with noob guides etc. and op2 is gay for multi...
-
I think we can reasonably fix some of the multiplayer issues given enough time. My worry is that is we advertise too early, some people will visit and think this is crap and never come back, even if they hear about us again. Mind you if we wait too long, we could run into people not caring anymore, or just not remembering the game (but common, who forgets OP2? B) ). That and we can always make more work for ourselves, so when are we ever going to be done/ready?
-
I also think that we should get more people here AND on IRC (everybody knows that I am always looking for a new peak). However, I strongly disagree with spamming other forums to get people. Maybe I didn't fully understand what you meant by "spamming other forums" ,but if it's what I think, it's not a good idea. I mean: I would never follow a link sent by a spammer on a given forum, never!
If by spamming you mean reasonably advertising, then I am in. I myself do it almost all the time, and so far I have been able to "recruit" some people. It takes time, but it's the best way. The last thing we want is people to think that OPU forum is a "crap" and its members even "crappier".
-
I think that at some point it would be good, even if we don't have full op2 Multi, once more of the projects get further along. I did find another OP2 player, but He is in a clan for this other game and isn't going to visit us. <_< :'(
Anyway, I think it would be a good idea to 'advertise' not spam OPU, say like:
"Were you in WON or _____ (forgot other server name) back in the day? Wish you could join the remnants of the WON players and ____? Come visit us at www.outpostuniverse.net. Also check out all the community projects we have going on, we have quite a few :D
For instance, Renegades, MIA, Genesis, Etc..."
Off Topic: If I EVER get photoshop I can help you guys with GFX. But for now, If you need help with 3D stuff I'm here. Maybe put this text on an ad for people to use as signatures on other forums.
-
Leeor net has already spammed alot of forum already and he was for the most part considered a bot and was ignored lol
-
While Levi and Hacker have good points about the lack of a really good multiplayer solution for OP2, by inviting new users and expanding the OPU population it becomes more likely that the experiences of other users will help us to find a better solution. Also, it helps to create a more active community and makes it easier for creaters of various projects (e.g., OP:MIA).
Oh well... what do I know anyway?
-
I wouldn't try to increase member-count with all means. It'll probably work, but people who haven't been on SIGS/WON and have never played op2 before are likely to leave us after short time, because they don't have the feelings for op2 we have.
-

umm yeah we mean resenable spam not just spamming everything and everyone etc
but levi ( or hacker ) .... its about 6 months ago when i first advise we should do it some time ... but WHEN EVER WILL WE BE COMPLETLY READY.
( to start we should put in our signature with all the other games we play a link to here >< )
and yeah thats a prob TH300.. i know
-
currently there are no real guides up for teaching some one about the game. things like that need doing.
and what i mean by spaming is just posting on many forums to try and get people.
we need to start by writing a message which we will post on forums. also we need a url list of forums that we will post on. we can put these on wiki so all can edit.
-
yeah i do agree with levi here that there r no real good guides to get to know the game .. i mean i played it the first time when i was about 6 so i couldnt realy read english or anything . and only since i was 12 or so i acualy did get the game and what to do or something >.> i just mean that there r no easy tutorials
-
we have to write them.
-
i think that the bigest issue to solve before open up the door widely is those:
-race balance
-make a way to have a more easy network capability (ip and ham can be pain to setup and discourage some ppl) i think this is the issue taht can be the most problemative to settle but if we can do it this will clearly help people with low computer knowledge to play
- finish all the interface so the site is really updated.. if asked i could work on a new site template because with the wiki the site can be fairly small remodeling it all..
-finish the wiki (awaiting assignment to continue i allready did eden story)
after those step i think we are ready to begin
-
I started an OP2 Mapping bit in the wiki. I'm so freaking bored with the 'stock' colony games that I wanted a new one and ran into some troubles so now I'm creating a step-by-step tutorial.
Hopefully that helps... unless it was deleted again
-
As another note, we will NEVER have full MP unless someone goes into the OP2 networking layer and recodes a bunch of it to work with both dial-up and direct connections as well LAN/NAT connections.
So we're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

ooo can you give me a link so I don't have to go hunting?
-
I don't have one off hand but it's under the Outpost 2 category: Outpost 2 Mapping
Lemme find it real quick:
http://www.wiki.outpostuniverse.net/Outpost_2_Mapping (http://www.wiki.outpostuniverse.net/Outpost_2_Mapping)
Please note that I need to finish it but at least it's a start.
-
not what I thought it was but still will be helpful to new mappers
-
I have an idea. Since the tutorials suck, let's make our own! We could even have some terrible voice acting like in Warcraft 3's tutorials. (I hate that guy's voice)
Our tutorial could start with a basic base. Maybe have some things need tube connections to operate. Anyways, we can have messages (maybe with voices) pop up and cnter on locations and tell people what to do. That way they can do it while they play (instead of pausing and checking a help file) and hopefully learn the game. Maybe have part of the map closed off and all the sudden an enemy base shows up and we walk them through destroying them.
-
Yea i have allways wanted to make a new set of tutorials to go along with the current ones :)
-
Hmm, I'd kinda thougth of a weapons tutorial like that once. I was thinking some voice/text (dual) instructions could be given at each step, and you could be given the units to carry something out, and then the game leaves up to do it. Something along the lines of testing various units or unit combinations in different situations to see how effective they are. Or proper usage of starflares and supernovas. (thumbsup) It's always fun to play with supernovas.
I never really thought too much about the details of how it would work, but I had a few ideas. Maybe this should become a new thread? (We could always split this topic)
-
We should probaby get somebody with a nice voice to do it. Or a computer program. Or, we could always have Moogle say something like "Move your units down and prepare to attack, lover."
-
Do I even want to know?
-
no, I dont think anyone should know that information
kinda like nuclear actavation codes, some things should not be shared with the public
-
You know, that's why I was originally not gonna tell anyone about the idea, and just make secret training levels for me.
But then I don't often play multiplayer, so who would I end up killing anyways? Nobody.
Although..., there are some fun things you can do with explosives!
-

I was just suggesting we try to use moogle's natural charm and charisma to attract more people through tutorials. We don't need to know the details of your inner feelings beta.
You know, none of this can go anywhere good, so let's try to get it off the collision course with the gutter?
-
but hell 90% of time home made explosive make a big baboum right in the owner head!
FATALITY would say shang tsung in mortal combat :P

Instead of spamming we should focus on the "or something" part like every one else said. If ppl could put the link to OPU in their sigs on other forurms (ones they already posted on, not ones you join for the sole sake of promoting OPU) that would be a good idea.

I agree with that. It's a lot easier to promote a game when you are familiar with a community. (If you join just for the sake of promoting OP2, people tend to think you're a robot or a spammer and just ignore, or worse, delete it)
-
ditto. spamming never get anyone to come and in fact usually alienates them
-
idk if this is the right place, but I was looking for Metroid prime 2 help, and one of the authors screennames is Nguyen, and that name is the guy mostly responsible for the blight in to op2 story. I tried to contact him and ask if he knows what op2 is, but couldnt find any way. heres the link for anyone thats intrested http://faqs.ign.com/objects/499/499105.html (http://faqs.ign.com/objects/499/499105.html).
-
Whats ppl? ;)
-
Well, believe it or not, Nguyen is an actual (incredibly goofy) name you know...
-
More people are always welcome... we need em!
