Well it isn't broke, but it won't work. I get a "software caused connection abort" error message when I try to connect. I would like to use IRC again. I hate IRC. Please help.

Firstly redownload IRC from here:
http://www.outpostuniverse.net/irc.htm (http://www.outpostuniverse.net/irc.htm)
Maybe you have to foward ports on your router for it? 6667-6669
Enable it on firewall?
Conect thru a proxy?

Guffaw, I've tried lotsa stuff it still says Unable to connect to server (software caused connection abort)
-
It's your winsock probably or net configuration.
See if you can reinstall that. What OS are you on?
-
XP. How do you reinstall winsock? As a matter of fact, what is winsock?
-
I think you need to put wsock32.dll into your system32 directory.
here (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?wsock32)
Have you tryed using Java IRC ? here (http://www.outpostuniverse.net/webirc/)
-
Java IRC doesn't work. (yes, i have java and javascript enabled, and all popups blockers disabled. I just get a white blank window.)
I can't possibly replace Wsock.dll because it is always being used by a process so it won't let me replace it.
The weird and annoying thing is that it worked fine until I got the new version. Then it bust up. Gah stop releasing new versions because I don't care! ARG. sorry im a little frustrated I've spent hours trying to get dumbs*** IRC to work.

I no your using Firefox and i couldnt get Java to work on it unless i went to the website and got this -
jre-1_5_0_01-windows-i586-p.exe (http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/sunjavadownload.html)
I think its the right file.
I cant understand what is wrong, IRC shouldnt have problems.. try plain mIRc from mirc.com?
Try xchat (http://www.xchat.org/) but i think ur get the same error msg.
You would have to go into safe mode to replace wsock, but i dont think you need to reinstall it because it shouldnt have any problems.
I had error 10053 a lot after i changed ISP, it was very anoying, after a got a router it was fine.

Have you tryed using DMZ on your router to your computer?
-
Yeah, try using another IRC client, or try different settings on your router.
Okay, you have XP, so you can't reinstall the winsock. (Doing so would break your system configuration).
FYI: winsock is just the networking layer of windows - it allows programs to create connections on the internet or any other network interface, and use them.
I get 10053's quite a bit on my connection, I don't have any routers or anything but I think it's some problems with the ISP (if I use proxies or anything else it usually works fine).

XChat gave me a slightly different message. Is wasa bit more clear that software on my machine was blocking the connection. Anyways so I thought a little and I tried to think what was put on recently that may be blocking it. And then I realised that I had a virus scanner put on (because I was sure I had a virus) Apparently that was blocking it. I don't see why though, all it was supposed to do is scan. GRR.
Anyways guys, thanks a million for trying to help me. Sorry for it being something so stupid.
I guess I go on IRC now.

You might wanna get your Java on firefox working.. the auto pluging downloader for it on firefox dosent seam to work.
Try that file i linked.
-
Actually, I did and it said I had it installed. Maybe the Java now working think was also caused by the program think I had. Ima try it. EDIT: no it doesn't.
