Faction Overview: Faction #1: The Terraformers = A high-tech faction focused on terraforming the barren new world into an earth-like planet, taking whatever shortcuts necessary to do so. 1. Futuristic = Access to a variety of more advanced technologies, that are typically more expensive, in some fashion, but gives them a technological edge over the Survivalists. Their civilian structures are prefixed with “advanced”. Example = Advanced Residence, Advanced Nursery, etc… 2. Chronic Researchers = The Terraformers love to create, explore, and develop things, and enjoy the cooperative nature of scientific progress. As a result, multiple labs can jointly research the same topic and complete it faster. Additionally, once they have exhausted all possible research at the Standard/Advanced Lab, they have an infinite research option available, that keeps their scientists busy and allows them to complete research topics to keep getting the research completed morale bonus. 3. Fusion Reliability = Terraformer Tokamaks do not passively degrade over time and have an emergency failsafe that activates near destruction, that doesn’t release a massive EMP blast wave. They can also build Solar Power Arrays, but theirs produce only half-power during the day, and only full power once they have a Solar Power Satellite available for each Solar Power Array. 4. Powerful Defenses = The Terraformers can construct powered walls, gates, and sensor towers. Powered walls emit light and certain kinds of weapon systems from deal reduced damage to the walls. Powered gates raise and lower, to allow your vehicles out, but keep enemy vehicles from entering, and have similar properties to powered walls. Sensor Towers give early warning of approaching vehicles and can even detect vehicles operating in stealth mode. 5. Drone Capabilities = Terraformers have access to flying drones, that can only be hit by specific weapon systems. They ignore terrain and move quite quickly, yet are not designed for taking hits. They have a Repair Drone, a Fighter Drone, and a Bomber Drone. 6. Mass Driver = Terraformers are able to launch starship components and satellites into orbit, with a powerful Mass Driver, instead of requiring a Spaceport. The Mass Driver assembles parts and components and then launches them into space. It can also be used as a weapon; they can use it to destroy an opponent’s satellite or starship component instead or destroy an incoming missile. If they use it as a weapon, they can either construct a scrap metal payload or use a starship component/satellite, if they lack a scrap metal payload. >>>===<<< Faction #2: The Survivalists = A faction focused on living in harmony with the planet, trying to avoid the mistakes of humanity in the past, while trying to live as environmentally friendly as possible. 1. Resilient = Focused on designing their structures to be disaster resistant and many structures can even operate, at reduced efficiency, when at red-damage status (which normally auto-disables a structure). Their civilian structures are prefered with “reinforced”. Example = Reinforced Agridome, Reinforced University, etc… 2. Adaptive Workforce = The Survivalists are used to roughing it out, and getting their hands dirty. Thus, their scientists can do the task of workers, without a morale penalty and any unemployed workers will perform volunteer tasks, passively, and thus will provide reduced morale penalties due to unemployment. 3. Solar Power Accessibility = The Survivalists have access to Solar Power Arrays at the start of the game. They produce power while it is daytime, and only produce power at night, once they deploy a solar power satellite. The Survivalists start with a single Solar Power Satellite, and thus their first power source will be a Solar Power Array. They can also build Tokamaks, but they are relatively unstable. 4. Lava Adaptation = The Survivalists have gotten used to being around lava and have developed methods of dealing with the stuff. First of all, they can build structures, tubes, and concrete walls adjacent to lava tiles. Secondly, they can use Earthworkers to spray cooling fluids onto lava tiles adjacent to them and turn them into volcanic tiles. Finally, the Terraformers have access to Lava Walls immediately, that do not degrade from lava damage, permanently keeping lava at bay, allowing the Survivalists to create and maintain a trench through lava. 5. Arachnids = The Survivalists have their own equivalent of Drones, the arachnids. They are rugged machines, that can handle most terrain effectively and are immune to EMP. They have the Tick, the Spider, and the Scorpion. 6. Rocket Program = The Survivalists are interested in space, but don’t want to be as wasteful as old Earth was with their huge expenditures of dangerous rocket fuels. Thus, they have developed a reusable launch vehicle (RLV) to launch their components into space. Additionally, they feel that spending massive amounts of resources on armies, when that could be better spent on something else, and thus have revived the old Earth missile program. They can build a variety of missile payloads, that serve different purposes, but refuse to develop nuclear weapons, for the damaging after-effects of using them both physically and philosophically.
