Were there already successful attempts to get the OP2 saving system to be a little bit more dynamic? (Loading a buffer of previously unknown size would already be enough) I found some raw suggestions in the mission sdk source files, but im not sure if they are up to date.

I'm not aware of anything. I suspect if it's been done, then Eddy-B would have been the one to do it.
Most people just work around this, such as by allocating static data structures that should be big enough.
