Anyone Knowledgable About Power Supplies
« on: August 12, 2009, 07:51:36 PM »
For my birthday, I got a liquid cooking system for my desktop (YAY!  Computer is running MUCH cooler than it was before) and I was thinking about getting a new power supply for when I decide to utilize the other 3 sata ports on my motherboard.  So, I'm hoping someone here knows enough about the company and specs of this power supply (currently on newegg for ~$150) to tell me if it would be worth the investment or not

Buy a Seasonic psu. They are built to last. I read a full report of a tech journalist going to their factory, amazing attention to detail, quality and testing.  http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/events/2009/0...-factory-tour/1

Otherwise you get what you pay for.  I haven't had any problems with Antec, Enermax or Hiper PSU's before.

As far as the power supply goes, i had a Coolmaster one for almost 5 years, and it hasnt had any problems yet. Just wondering, why do you need 2 6 pins and 2 8 pins? Are you Sli-ing something?  I really think thats over kill, again, unless ur Sli-ing some cards togeather, for I use 750 watt for my 9800gtx. I would go for 750 watt and 1 6 pin spot. Thou, does the liquad cooling run off the power supply?

P.S. Congrats on ur gift

Sometimes you just have to be prepared for anything you might decide to do in the future :P

I think you probably need something around the 500/600 Watt mark, unless you are planning on buying lots of GFX cards in the future.

A PSU with max power output of 600W should do you fine for 6 hard drives, a GFX card and still give some room for upgrades in the future

Doesn't hurt to be prepared for the future. "Overboard" is just a way of saying "tomorrow is coming" or some philosophical crap like that.
