In this game how far does the lava flow come into your base, and is there anywhere lava-free with rare ore near? The damn lava flow keeps wrecking my base before I can get my spacecraft built!!

You'll have to split your colony. bottom-right for commen and top-left for rare. And yes - the lava will only flow over the black terrain.
And unless you are playing easy, expect some hard eden attacks on both sides.

I relish the challenge.the Bigger the attacks the better. Is there any research or anything that triggers the attacks,or do they just happen?I'd like to get my colony relocated and setup before they start..

I think they just start happening after a while.

And they probly just get biger after each time.

I would try and get stickfoam to slow them down.

I usually take the common near the center.  You'll have to deal with a pest or two before the computer starts attacking.  I usually obliterate one side and leave the other side for a challege.  Problem is I start messing around and end up getting wasted.  It would be too easy to just straight rush and kill both sides.  Then the game is no fun.

Back to the subject, lava doesn't flow in the middle.  If you take one side out, you can take some attractive 3 bars.  But watch your back.  :)

FYI: lava can ONLY flow on lava-rock, which is the darkgrey tiles. If you switch to the altitude minimap, it's colored black & lightgrey (darkgrey spots are non-passable, so they dont concern you anyway). As for how lava flows, it's controlled by the mission script: i could set it to flow any specific tile, if i want to, or excluded any tile. This alos means the lava will ALWAYS stop at the same point, no matter how many times you play the mission.

This specific colony game has a small gap in the lava-flow just east of the original base, so you can still move between the 2 base sites TH300 mentioned.

Good luck!

Ah yes, in starship one you start in the lava flow plain yes? So you have to move your base to safe land. On that level i tube to the right of the base then once the lava starts ill move my base off the lava plain completly. There is no point in building new structures twise, so if you get them on the safe terran in the first place you wont have to get them again.

Just remember to raze the building you don't have any need for.

If they get destroyed by lava or enemy forces your people still dies, which is a pain later on.

Never let people die! Same in multiplayer, if a building is going to get destroyed, you idle it!

So once you have moved all your buildings, and have doubles of them, idle the originals.

Idled buildings still claim the lives of the one time workers and scientist..

Here's a better idea. Dismantle it with a convec. No negative effects there.

Another question: is there any way to turn the disasters off,or slow them down a bit?So far I've had 4 earthquakes through my base which demolished all my medical centres, agridomes and residences which is kind of frustrating, seeing then I have to stop mass-producing combat vehicles and rebuild...

Disasters is part of the fun and challange. Rember they will allways be in the same place each game so learn places not to build.

The harder the difculity the more disasters.

Use a DIRT to reduce damage.. a bit.

Only with programing and hacking the mission can disasters be removed.

I've never seen people die if you idle the building fast enough.   Heres the trick, idle it before it hits the red.   And ALWAYS idle it before a twister/lava gets close.   Only exception, is the CC.   You cannot idle it unless you have a second.

Yes, if you don't idle a building ahead of time before it gets destroyed, you'll still lose the colonists. (They didn't have time to escape?) If you idle it long enough ahead of time, you won't ever lose anybody. It seems you need to have it idled for a least a second or two to be sure you don't lose anybody.

I assume that is so that the 'ticks' process the idle command and 'move the colonists away' or is it just a tick lag so that you can't idle last minute kind of thing?
