We have a forum archive of old posts/topcis. Should it be readable/public? I dont mean able to post on it. Just read it, and so search engines can index it. I think it should so everyone can read old topics. No need to hide it away. Its part of the forums!

Exactly. Sometimes, some things need to be dug up. so new things can be discussed.
