Disasters are what make Outpost 2 different from other RTSs (and their completely combat-centric environments).
Outpost 2 is about space colony survival in a completely hostile environment. Disasters are a nice 'enemy' to fight if you don't like the idea of fighting another colony. Gives you the feeling of managing the Last Outpost Of The Human Race
That said, I think the Blight should be removed. When you look at it, it isn't a 'natural' disaster- it was engineered by Eden and there's no way to stop it (Haven't tried the microbe walls at all, but I imagine they don't hold off the Blight forever). The blight doesn't settle like Lava does, and keeps spreading through all defenses. It is THE 'endgame' disaster to which there is no recovery.
However, of the 'normal' disasters, my enemies are vortexes and meteors. In Plymouth Starship II, I had a tornado touch down and wipe out all my Tokamaks and MHD generators... as if it were God playing a trick on me (coincidentally as the Eden AI was sending an attack wave against me).
Also on that same map, early game, a giant meteor fell from the sky and wiped out my structure factory in one go... ending the game for me in failure since it was my only structure factory
ElecStorms and smaller meteors only become a nuisance when you're under attack from three different directions, the scientist in your nursery dies, and your citizens expect you to be everywhere at once.
