Fine, if I can't nominate the color red, I nominate Eddy-B if he promises to uphold the color red's moral code, political values, and spiritual insights.

I think candidates should have to provide some information about the modshipping.   EX. Why?   How would you react in this situation?   ect...

Not an election eddy, but a bit more of a private thing to find out if they are op quality, and if they have actual good reasons for opness other then a power trip...

uh, if we are not looking for a op, why do we have this topic? I seriously doubt we will need another one anytime soon, in addition.

You know, that election idea actually sounds fun. Maybe we should start a thread on it as a sort of joke. We could post questions for the candidates to answer, and they could all give their answers (uniterrupted preferrably), and then afterwards, people could all comment on who'se answer they thought was best (or funniest/scariest).

Or I could take this thread a little more seriously. I guess I should mention Baikon. I know he's always interested in helping out. That, and I notice him hanging around these op threads a lot.    Hinting at something maybe? Hoping to get noticed?  B)

hm, lol, in that election maybe we should see who actually is willing to take the work of a GM or whatever. Like have anyone be able to say that "i'm interested" or whatnot. :P

That election thing reminds me of something we were talking about shortly after overthrowing killer.  We were talking about having community elections each year for who would be admin.  Then we got kicked off that forum and the idea was forgotten, lmao

anyway, if it weren't for the fact that he's never there, I would say phil (OP2PATRIOT).  He's always been able to keep his cool in madding situations, and the only time people were complaining was when he temp-banned it2000us for TOS violations

but, I must agree about leeor.  Eddy I'm not so sure, lol, jk

Okay, lets get back on topic.

This thread is to recommend OTHER people, not yourself. Enough said there.

But again, we aren't really looking for ops right now.

I see the Election thing to be a bad thing.  I see it to cause nothing more then a flame war and will just piss every one off.

Any way

Leeor and/or Eddy sound like best pick.

As for baikons Idea of this interview type situation where we ask them how they would handle things in a theorectical way is just BS.  Mostly its going to go by a person has acted in the channels and forum.

Freeza, what you said I take as a little insulting.

Past behavior is not always indicitive of future behavior.
Usually, I'm a fairly nice and calm guy.
But I've flown off the handle when under pressure.  Very far off the handle.   Several kilometers from the handle.   Well, that dosn't help my above statement, but still.   While I can't really back it up with facts, atm, I'm fairly sure the past behvior does not necessarily indicate future behaviors.
Just because some one is "Good" at their current non op level, dosn't mean they won't give in to the temptation of abusing their op powers.

OPU|Hooman, are you trying to conspire against me?  How dare you tell them my secret plans!   You shall wake up with a severd head of seomthing tomorrow morning in your bed!

Oh dear, my conspiracy has been discovered!   I'm guessing the head will be of someone I know since there is "morning" involved.  :P

The only problem with that future behavior thing, is that we can't tell what their future behavior will be ahead of time. Best way to judge seems to be on past actions. Then we're always free to behead them if they misbehave afterwards.  :P

Btw, is this thread for IRC op only? Or is this any sort of position, like global mod? If this is for the forums, then yeah, Leeor seems like a good choice. But I don't really see him too much on IRC, and I'm not sure if he'd want to suffer the distraction of having IRC open all the time. He does have a lot of work to do afterall. (And I'm pretty sure he's said previously that IRC can be distracting from work. At least I think it was Leeor. don't quote me on this.)

But yeah, that brings up another point. Giving people more responsibilities can take time away from other important things that might have otherwise done. Maybe they'd rather do what they're already doing?

I'm proof of that.  I used to be in competition with beta for the title od\f spam king (and won, actually), but then turned around when given responsibility.   May be the opposite of your main point, but it's an example

I never forgot the idea, it is that we had that half year forum war. I think I had a chance to win that election. If I recall right, the election was my idea.

Well, I can't remember that time well enough to know if I kept my cool. Just recently my forum had a situation worse than the It situation, where a member delibertly antagonized the community, expected me to give him a free pass since I was his friend, I said he must give responsibility. He delibertly tried to talk me into lashing out at him, and I must sadly admit that I did. Then he and his friends rallied against me and tried to get the forum to overthrow me. Not many people believed him, he would change the severity of his views from time to time. We eventually got him to leave, but his friend flood attacked the place and because of poor tech support the forum was shut down for days. Were I a staff member at this forum, I'd be less likely to get upset given I am not as close of friends with you all as I am with people at my forum, but any person who knows which buttons to press can set me off.

Are we talking about IRC op or forum moderator?

If IRC op, there is no way I would do that. If I had the time to be in that room frequently and had things my way, I'd have censors set up and message rate slowers for people you trip off the censors. I'd be a person for banning the chatroom for TOS violation, and if that isn't there, I'd have it set up. I'd hate the job, it'd be draining, and I just don't have the time.

As for forum moderator, people, you shouldn't really seriously consider me unless I am here straight for a month. I have plenty of experience with the old community and dealing with xfir, but I don't know the newer people as well. Along with maturity, the qualifications for a good moderator should be frequent-enough activity and knowing the members. If a month from now I am still active, I would be interested in a moderator/admin job here. I have lots of experience with modifying Invision and have whipped a disorderly spamming bunch into productive nice members ... without ever using the ban button. It was quite an active place until the Thanksgiving incident. Hopefully with some new changes it will be active again. Were I an admin/moderator, I'd probably think up some policies that I'd recommend to the administration to make the forum a nicer and more orderly place.
