The Demo Maps
« on: October 19, 2005, 10:57:34 PM »
I was wondering if the OP2 mapper that Hacker has made could open OP2Demo map files.   I first grab the maps.vol off the demo, and open it with the mapper.   I then extract the map files, open them with OP2 mapper, and the suspense...    Nothing happens.   An error occures.   Evidently, the demo maps use a differeing tileset from that of the Release OP2.   Because this is so, that means that unless the tile values are manually converted (or manually placed in the mapper) no demo map can be played.   The only successfull port of a demo map done was Unsettled Earth, also done by Dynamix.
So!
Can the old mapper, with its primitive tileset knowledge open these map files?   I doubt it, but I no longer have the old mapper anyway.   So I can't test the theory out.

The map in the demo might be in slightly different format.

Eddy that map is just a map which comes with the game.

haxtor, if you ever do finish that, I'd make a .dll to go with it...

Just so everyone else knows, because the tilesets are different, creating a .dll for them dosn't work either (memory error is what op2 gives)

Umm, why don't you just use the tileset from the demo? It sorta sounds like there is no real format difference, just a difference in the data set.

could someone write a patching file that updates the demo map files to work with the curent tile set? it should be as simple as finding what numbers are off and correcting them
