I saw it once a long time ago (When the Sci-fi channel had saturday anime).

I have recently read the manga tho. I would have to say that it is definately one of the best animes (is that a word?) I have ever seen, also it is one of the most confusing.

Actually Anime started before the 1960's. For example "Astro Boy" started in 1963.
There were others that started in the early 40's but, I forgot their names :P.
