A mission to the past has gone terribly wrong...

Savant Series Computer Activated: Historical Overview:

Earth has been dead for 399 years, the current date is July 4th 2401 Old Earth calendar, or 418201.6 New Haven Time (NHT). The downfall of New Terra to the Blight was 203 years ago. After almost 100 years the Blight (Which was self-aware during that time period, but dormant) formed the Blight Dominion and formally declared war on all of humanity. Eden and Plymouth ignored the threat from the Blight, as they had a century's worth of technological advance since New Terra. The Blight had only the technologies from New Terra's databases. The Blight put their Savant Computers to work on a Faster-than-light drive, which took them five years to develop one. When Eden and Plymouth learned of this, they decided on a temporary truce, known as the Treaty of New Terra. They worked together on a prototype known only as PL, or Light Drive. They finished one year before the blight did (because they had been working on it for 20 years by themselves. As they worked on it, they developed a Tachyon Radio System. So they could have interstellar communications instantly. When they finished their Light Drive, the two nations built 10 'LightSpeed' Destroyers capable of speeds around several thousand lightspeed. The first weapons were the Laser and RailGun for Eden, and the Microwave, Pulsed Laser, and RPG Launcher for Plymouth. The Empire of Eden and the Republic of Plymouth discovered many New Terra-class planets which they colonized in the name of their nations. They fought over the 'border' of their nations for a great many years. The Blight Dominion changed everything for them. When they landed on the Remote Eden Mining Planet Mortania, the same thing happened as on New Terra, but at an accelerated rate. Eden and Plymouth lost a large portion of their Nations to the Blight. But the Anti-blight developed under the Second Treaty of New Terra, changed things. The Blight develop mechanical suits in which they thrived, now having to conquer the planets the 'old-fashioned' way. In the year 2359, Eden and Plymouth merged into the New Haven Alliance. Their first success was conquering New Terra from the Blight using a brand-new Cloaking Device, and turning it into their Capitol World. But now, New Terra is all humanity has left. You, Commander, are to take a prototype Starship on a special mission: Destroy the Blight before they were even created. Your timeship will create a One-way Time Wormhole to the year 2178, prevent the blight, and create another Time Wormhole to get back to the present before Eden and Plymouth discover you.

And remember Commander: Exctintion, and failure, are not your options!

I am working on the Intro AVI for OP3: Reboot. If anyone would like to help, please PM me.

Thank you.

Outpost 3 : Reboot
A mission to the past has gone terribly wrong...

Chapter 1: When it all began...

"Savant Series Computer Activated: Begining Alpha-Command Level Briefing: For Your eyes only..." Those were the words spoken by Savant Kraft before a mission to escape from New Terra was turned toward a Starship project. Those words are repeated yet again, not by Kraft but by Savant Katherine. "Commander, a Blight Ship is approching on the port bow!" The brand-new Time-ship rocked and creaked because of a Starflare Torpedo Blast. "We are under attack!" "Active Time-hole! Fire Pulsed Laser at the Blight!" Commanded Axen Panati. "Direct hit sir! Their Light-drive is no longer functional!" said the Helmsman. "The Time-hole has opened sir." Said first officer Geneva Burke. "Activate Cloaking Device, and take us in!" The Timeship slowly faded as it's cloaking device activated, and moved invisibly to the Timehole. There was a flash of light and all they saw was New Terra, with no battlescars on it's surface, which would indicated the battles of Eden, Plymouth, and the Blight. The Timeship rocked again, but much more severe, and it's cloaking device wavered, then died. "What the hell was that?" exlaimed Axen Panati. "The Blight ship followed us before the Timehole sealed sir." "Well, reactivate the Cloak and get us on the top of Mt. Goddard, now!" "Yes sir." The Blight ship shot a Supernova torpedo at the timeship. The timeship was hit and flew downward to New Terra in a certain crash landing. "Oh, s***!!!" exclaimed the Helmsman. The ship hit the surface near a crash site of the Conestoga, where it's cloaking device reactivated. "Well, that was nice! Where the hell is that ship?" Axen Panati asked.

More to come soon...

Outpost 3: Reboot News.

I don't think that I will be able to create the game. I don't have the help nor the software required. I will begin working on the storyline anyway. After all, one can not have too many OP Novellas. If anyone would like to make the game, I would love to help.

*I will try and have the next part of the story in by this weekend. I am kind of busy all the time...

I don't know really. Something that can make a Outpost 2- type game (Graphics wise). I can create AVI's (Like the intro), the story, and basic mods to the origional graphics (to account for changes in the time-stream). I would love to do it, but I need someone to create more building/units, etc...

Anyway, Chapter 1 will be concluded soon.

The Conclusion to Chapter 1:

The helmsman said, "I am reading the Blight scout ship landing where the final colony of Eden will be!" "What!" Axen exclaimed. "If Plymouth can't steal the RLV from Eden, then we will fail! Deploy the CSK! And get the wide-area Cloak generator up also!" "Yes sir!" The Helmsman said, as he walked up and out of the bridge. "Captain, what if we can't stop the blight's creation?" Geneva Burke asked. "Then we will unlease the anti-blight after Eden and Plymouth leave New Terra. Any other changes in the time-stream will be accounted for when they happen." Axen tapped the comm button. "When will the CSK finish it's construction?" "It will be several hours, Captain. The WAC (Wide Area Cloak) will be online in 35 minutes." "Very well, Panati out. Geneva, tell me again why I took up this assignment." Geneva looked at Axen, with a small glint in her eye. "Because, I was going with or without you, and you couldn't let me go... without you." Geneva said, smiling. "Plus, you've lost so many relatives and old friends to the blight. Even now, Brook Panati, your great-grandfather, may be able to see his son without leaving this planet. Things won't be rushed. And his friend, Axen Moon, won't die a purposeless death." "It wasn't purposeless! He died knowing that Brook would have the chance to live! It was a great honor to have the last son of Earth die for my family!" Axen Panati half-shouted. "I'm sorry... sir." Geneva walked out of the bridge. 'Why do I keep doing this? She'll never like me if I keep doing that!' Axen thought. Then, all of a sudden, red lights began to flash, which meant... "Why are we at Red Alert?" "Sir, the blight must have altered our Time-hole, the original blight has just been unleased!" The science officer said. "So, this is what happends when you open Pandora's box..." Axen said.

And the plot thickens...
So what do you all think? By-the-way: Chapter 1 is called 'When it all began...' I am going to edit the beginning to show the title of the chapter.

The next chapter is Chapter 2 - Red Alert. I will post it as soon as I finish. Please, tell me what you think of it. I am also working on the planning of the Outpost 3: Reboot Game (again). I will need some help, so any volenteers?

Also, Leviathan, what software do you recommend? Like I said above, it needs to be almost the excat same as OP2, game and graphics-wise. After all, almost all of the origional units will be in it. (For the past Eden and Plymouth)

yea C++ would be the best solution (as far as speed) but programming Win32 with it isn't the most fun thing to do.

If you want ease of use (at the cost of some speed, but it's not TOO slow) you could go with VB (6 - .NET sucks)

I should have Chapter 2 ready by this weekend. I don't really have any knowledge of any programming languages, so would VB 5.0 work? I have it, just not a compiler for it. I would require some help, but I'm going to do the graphics (For Eden, Plymouth, Blight, and New Haven) myself. In the OP2 Logo, what is the font for the OUTPOST 2 part? I would like to use it.

VB 5 should work good. There isn't much difference between VB 5 and VB 6. As for compiling it, that's built into the environment. You don't really need to compile to test a VB program but you can do it from the file menu when you're ready to distrubute. (Or final testing to make sure it all works right once fully compiled).

If you're new to programming, VB is probably one of the easiet languages to learn. Most games were probably written with a C++ compiler though. VB can be kinda restrictive at times (and ocasionally a little slow, but not as much as some people would have you believe). If you really need extra speed for something, you can always consider a little mixed language programming. But I wouldn't worry about that for now. It won't be an issue until you've had some experience anyways. I'd say go with VB 5.0 if you've already got it.

Enjoy

(Of course some people say learning any language is close to the same level of difficulty so if you have C++ too, it might not be a bad idea to look into. Just don't expect the same initial results.)

Well, I have VB 5 and 6, but niether of them can compile programs. I have VB5 CCE, and VB6 Working Edition. Does anyone have a VB compiler? As for C++, I have a program for it, but I know nothing of the language itself.

My ISP isn't stable enough for IRC. I could try the WebIRC later though. I think that I will just use Game Maker 5.2 to create Outpost 3: Reboot. I will need some volenteers to help me with the game. I have realised that I can't do the graphics that I will need for the game, so I will need someone to do that. I also need sounds, the Savant voices, and music. I will do the game itself, the AVI's (for the most part), and the novella. So, anyone interested?

Edit: I will have a web page up soon.
