what not to do...
« on: August 31, 2004, 08:55:46 AM »
  • spam the forum that the accusers are the admins of.  That's just a stupid idea.
  • start curesing your accusers out.  It only makes you look more suspicious.
  • use reverse psychology.  Typed messages suck at sarcasm.
  • point the finger back at them.  Very few cases where that happens are you innocent.

and I really know what I'm talking about.  I have caught people cheating in other games several times, each time they did most of that.

Well it is just so easy to cheat and Humans are suspicious creators anyways, so we automatically assume.

"Assumption is the mother of all f*ck-up's"

CK9, just because you think a person is cheating, doesn't mean that they are. There isn't really a way of proving it unless you get a message "WOOF WOOF" (I think that's what it says).

"Woof! Woof!"
Thats not always true. What if someone types Woof! Woof! like he/she is kidding. U can only kno truly if game desyncs... (i kno some cheaters were on WON)

You don't necessarily need proof of a "woof woof" to know they are cheating. Other types of proof work. For example, perhaps the player has things that require rare ore but doesn't have a rare ore smelter (and is not getting these things transferred to them, for example an FFA.)

I consider breaking the rules that everyone have agreed to during a game is cheating, such as forming teams during an FFA, breaking the build mark in land rush, or having weapons during a peaceful type game such as a resource race.

Also, one should not type Woof! Woof! unless they are expecting to be labeled a cheater. You should concetrate on playing the game, not pretend to cheat.

The game will desync if the cheater is using a trainer or whatnot to cheat. The game will not desync if everyone has the same code in all of their games (for example, the Dan's cheats built into the game).

Thank you CK9 for making this post, everyone needs to know this.

If I catch anyone cheating and I can prove it, a few things will happen:

1- I will ban them from IRC immediately. This banning will last long enough until the problem is gone. I know for a fact other people who have operator priviledges will help me on this.
2- Any spam on the forums won't be tolerated. Consequences range from a warn level increase to account deletion or banning, depending on severity. (xfir will help me with this stuff, I'm sure as he's the only other person that has the power to do this) Of course, I'll close the topic they used to spam.
3- Block them from other OP related services.

CK9, add to that list spamming the email inbox of an admin, which is what one cheater did to me.

If you see cheating when operators / admins aren't around, please inform us.

Thanks!

You are correct. If you are accused and you didn't, don't spam the boards saying that you didn't, just blow it off, unless they start doing the same thing, then just make one post saying that you didn't and ask an admin to close and delete the thread.

Not necessarily, it would be what you said in the constant denial that would make you look guilty.
