Add-On Mission Wiki Pages
« on: October 28, 2016, 10:09:37 AM »
Hey, everybody.

Some of you have been releasing new missions recently and there may even be some that are not so recent that either aren't included in the main download or will be in the next releases (see http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5902.0.html for details).

Anyway, I was thinking it would be helpful to add wiki pages for custom missions that are included in the download. I don't know if individual missions need a dedicated page but maybe just a single page listing out the missions and details about them.

I know some of the custom missions have some nuances that may need to be listed out in terms of how to play, what to expect, mission objectives, etc. Let me know if you think this would be useful and if it is, I could use a bit of help getting that going.

Thanks!

Below is an attempt at capturing the current list of scenarios in Outpost 2 that are not included in the official Outpost 2 build and are reasonably playable. I'm likely missing a couple of maps, but this should be a good start.

The number of maps listed on the main maps wiki page is probably too many. I was thinking we should separate out the maps by categories. IE a separate wiki page for Eden Campaign, Plymouth Campaign, Colony, multiplayer, and non-canon maps. I'm saying non-canon for scenarios not included in the current official download. There is probably a better turn.

Non-Canon scenarios already listed in Wiki

I have inconsistently already pushed some of these maps into the Wiki Maps page. Pushed maps are:

  • Danger Zone
  • Distant Noise
  • Outcasters starship
  • Caught in the Crossfire
  • The Mission
  • Fractured Alliance
  • Renegades (sort of documented, I cannot play through the scenarios to finish though :|)

Non-Canon Outpost 2 Scenarios

Single Player

Distant Noise
Scenario Designer: Flashy
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5480.msg79332.html#msg79332
Overview: A sandbox map that allows use of the chat messaging in Outpost 2 to command attacks and disasters againt your colony.

Outcaster's Starship
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5014.0.html
Scenario Designers: Lord of Pain, ECC, and Flashy
Overview: A lengthy colony game involving repairing a ally computer's base and locating wreckage to launch a starship.
Bug: If you destroy the northern Plymouth colony, you may not be able to retrieve the wreckage from the advanced lab even though the objective indicates you can. Leaving the advanced lab in tact makes scenario beatable. (Vagabond: This bug occured to me once and should be retested.)

The Mission
Scenario Designer: Angellus
Overview: A land rush with enemy bases present. This mission uses a completely redesigned tech tree requiring the multitek mod.
Bug: Scenario suffers from unrecoverable crashes. Needs more testing. (Vagabond: If I remember right it has save problems. This map may be suffering from Randomized Base Address (ASLR) issues. Source code is contained in repository, but no solution/project files included.)

Evacuation Under Fire - Ply Campaign Scenario
Designer: Vagabond
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5816.0.html
Overview: A short evacuation scenario while under pressure from enemy units.

On The Run
Scenario Designer: Vagabond
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5818.0.html
Overview: A short land rush into preparing the colony for evacuation under pressure of attack.

Colony Game - Eden Starship, Rising Form the Ashes
Scenario Designer: Vagabond
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5803.0.html
Overview: A slow pased colony game. Launch a starship from a meager beginings with limited ore. Includes simple enemy base, off map enemy attacks, and lava.

Multiplayer

5P, SRV, Danger Zone
Scenario Designer: Flashy
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,4981.0.html
Overview: Danger Zone is an up to 5 player cooperative survivor map. Players start in a land rush running from the blight. They must defeat a superior, smart AI base and launch a starship before being overrun by the blight.

4P, SRV, Darkest Hour
Designer: Sirbomber
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic=4799.0.htm (latest Download is at bottom of thread).
Overview: Darkest Hour is a 4 player space race with a serious blight problem.

4P, LoS, Bomber's Big Blast
Designer: Sirbombmer
Description: http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,4463.0.html
Download: http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5800.msg82918.html#msg82918
Overview: An Outpost 2 clone of the Mario Party 2 minigame "Bowser's Big Blast" designed for up to four players. Completely based on chance. A fun short game that is perfect when needing to determine an arbitrary winner.

5P, SRV, Fractured Alliance
Designer: Sirbomber
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5750.msg82566.html#msg82566
Overview: Up to 5 player cooperative survivor mission. Starts as land rush into enemy territory.
Bugs: Sometimes the game will fail on startup. Invading the main AI base at the top of the map crashes the game very often.

4P, LoS, 'Hidden Treasure'
Scenario Designer: Flashy
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5148.msg75141.html#msg75141
Overview: (Vagabond: I need to test this scenario to see how complete it is. Looks very unique)

6P, LoS, 'PlayGround'
Scenario Designer: Flashy
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5148.msg75141.html#msg75141
Overview: (Vagabond: I need to test this scenario to see how complete it is. Looks very unique)

4P, SRV, Caught In The Crossfire
Scenario Designer: Mcshay
http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,3013.msg50430.html#msg50430
Overview: Crossfire is a fast-paced survivor scenario containing allied human players and a hostile AI player. The AI player tries to destroy the human players while the human players try to escape the blight and launch a complete starship. Location of mining beacons are hidden until scouted.

4P, LoS, Bridge Defense
Scenario Designer: Mcshay
http://arklon.outpost2.net/mcshay/XHTML/brd.html
Overview: Bridge Defence is a four player Last One Standing map. It uses the Greenworld water expansion created by Mcshay. This map should feel like a fast-paced seige map.
Notes: Requires the Greenworld and Bridge Tileset to work.

5P, SRV, Forsaken World
Designer: Harky, Mcshay, and Arklon
Overview: A competitive space race where players must run from the blight. A 4 player version exists that is included in the full version of the game.
Bug Notes: (Vagabond: Forsaken world crashed on me two out of two plays about midway through the first evacuation to escape the blight. Both times played with 3 players in Windows.)

6P, LoS, Scout Rush
Scenario Designer: Sirbomber & Mcshay (not sure if Mcshay actually helped or not?)
http://arklon.outpost2.net/mcshay/XHTML/srush.html
Overview: Scout Rush is a 6 player Last one Standing map that takes place on the Plymouth 12 campaign map. It is mindless fun. Build as many Scouts as possible and rush your enemies. Everything dies instantly. You can build walls with Earthworkers and Guard Posts with ConVecs. Includes some interesting disasters.
Note: Setting resource values for a player alters the available weapons.

4P, LoS, Confrontation
Scenario Designer: CK9 & Mcshay
http://arklon.outpost2.net/mcshay/XHTML/confrontation.html
Overview: Confrontation is a four player last one standing scenario. There is a very large AI that consists of guard posts and stationary defensive units separating the two teams of humans.

4P, LoS, Doomsday
Scenario Designer: Mcshay, Sirbomber for Survtech
http://arklon.outpost2.net/mcshay/XHTML/dd.html
Overview: Doomsday is a four player last one standing scenario. The goal is to be the person with the last structure standing. At mark 666, disasters begin to pummel the map. How long can you survive?

Maps in Current Outpost 2 Release Containing Bugs/Problems

Pre-Release Eden Demo
Designer: Dynamix
Note: This map is not beatable without a replacement tech tree. See new tech tree here: http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5795.msg82861.html#msg82861

4P, LoS, Punwick Junction
Overview: Punwick Junction is a Last One Standing scenario based on La Corrida. Unlike La Corrida, there is no AI in the center of the map.
Bug Notes: Map file is not present in current Outpost build.

4P, SRV, Forsaken World
Designer: Harky, Mcshay, and Arklon
Overview: A competitive space race where players must run from the blight.
Bug Notes: (Vagabond: Forsaken world crashed on me two out of two plays about midway through the first evacuation to escape the blight. Both times played with 3 players in Windows.)

Other

Outpost Renegades
Designer: Edddy-B and others

Forsaken World was made by Harky, me, and Mcshay. Also, there's 2 different versions of it, one that's 4P and one that's 5P. Which version were you crashing on?

Arklon,

I updated Forskaken world's designers to include you and Harky. I also added the 5P version of Forsaken world and the scenario Doomsday, which I had missed earlier. I haven't been around for the creation of many of these scenarios, so please let me know what else I'm messing up or missing and I'll add it in.

We had trouble when playing the 4 player version of Forsaken World. Why isn't the 5 player variant included in the official game download? I'm happy to jump on IRC and retest it if this would be helpful, let me know when.

I just realized what your crash is probably being caused by. Most likely it's because there's a version mismatch with survtech.txt between players, which causes the game to desync and eventually crash. I just reuploaded 1.3.6 to include the newest version of survtech.

Hey everyone,

I finally finished typing up the custom scenario wiki page. It includes more information then the listing above and should be used instead as an index of all custom Outpost 2 scenarios in existence (that are at a reasonable level of playability).

Check out custom scenarios here: http://wiki.outpost2.net/doku.php?id=outpost_2:maps:custom_scenarios
Check out new Maps section here: http://wiki.outpost2.net/doku.php?id=outpost_2:maps

If I am misrepresenting anything or missing any info, please edit the page or post here and I'll go in and fix it. I want to take the time to learn how to add the Greenworld tileset to the game, but I have not yet, so Greenworld maps are not yet included.

Missing Information:
  • Greenworld maps are not listed except for Bridge Defense
  • Bridge Defence does not have a picture
  • Outpost Monopoly does not have an available download

Thank you Arklon. I am hoping to try the re-uploaded version of Forsaken World today.

Arklon,

I replayed 4P, SRV, Forsaken World again with my siblings. This time it didn't crash. :) We made it to the end of the game and all lost. My sister was closest needing about 3 more colonists to make 200 for the starship when the blight consumed her. Played with Med resources, Morale On, Disasters On, Day/Night On.

There were some issues with starting base locations though.

My brother started with his initial mine inaccessible due to the small volcano. Some of the volcano's sprites were clipped as well.

This screen shot shows my base with buildings on top of the volcano.

I think if you just delete these pieces of terrain and change the cell types to passable, everything would be fine. Probably worth checking the other two starting locations for terrain problems as well. We all enjoyed the scenario.
