Happy New Years 2015!

Hi all!

Happy New Years to all!

So its been around 18 years of Outpost 2: Divided Destiny and the community lives on! Much has changed but much remains the same.. I know that there are still many old timers who have Outpost 2 in the back of the minds with very fond memories.

Its given me many years of fun and more importunately its been great being part of a community. I have been away for many years but the holidays always bring me nostalgia and a chance to play some games. I was reminded of the years of Outpost 2 and the many great people here and a few I spoke with over the holidays.

I thought I would post to see who is still active and still holds enthusiasm for our great game!

So please reply if you are active and would like to meet up for some games and chat.

I wish everyone at The Outpost Universe the best in 2015! :D

I am semi-active.

I'd certainly love to play op2 again, but I
1. am mostly busy with other things
2. demand that a few things get fixed (the Netfix game server, the forum skin, ...)

I am effectively back from my years-long hiatus. I loved OP2 when it first came out as a kid and I still enjoy it today. Also a die-hard fan of Outpost and how great it could have been. -grumble-

Wow great to see all these names again! Yeah I'm more than down for some games!

Work's been keeping me busy so I don't often have the time to reply but I'm still around after returning from my decade long hiatus. Really glad to see OPU still kicking around.

Yeah time flying by.. few of us had plans this year to work on OPU stuff but not much has happened unfortunately :( Things have died down again. Maybe over winter people will be inclined.

There are still people poping into IRC which is good, if anyone is look for game/chat come stop by :)

I had a small, yet very interesting question to ask of everyone...How many simultaneous vortexes and thunderstorms would it take in coding to crash the game?

All disasters (barring lava and the Blight) are treated internally as units.  OP2 can support 2047 units in game at a time; any attempt to create a 2048th unit will crash the game.

I know the unit allocator returns a null address when it runs out of unit records, and most code doesn't bother to check for null, so it could crash the game. It won't though unless the null is used as a valid value. It might simply do nothing once the limit is reached.

Consider who you're talking to, Hooman.  I once tried to create 3000 Acid Cloud Scorpions hostile to each other on the same tile, just to see what would happen.

Internally the unit creation function takes a parameter for the unit chassis, and another parameter for the weapon type. They are easy to set independently. The game just doesn't offer that option in the user interface.

Fascinating. It never occurred to me you could change the "Subject" part way through a thread. This just goes to show how blind I've become to the options staring me in the face, that I've slowly trained myself to never look at.
