Colony Games: Population Just Stops Growing
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:13:54 AM »
I'm trying to play Cold War because it's the simplest of the scenarios. I've tried it on easy and medium, and lose every time. But I don't get killed - like any general, I simply "fade away".

You start with 25 colonists. Every time I play it I can increase my population into the 40s. At that point the death rate always overtakes the birth rate.

Slowly but surely, I run out of workers and have to shut down buildings until I can't really do anything at all.

I have a nursery, hospital, residences and recreation buildings, all under 100% demand.

Am I missing something key here?

You're missing one key element: the University.

I've tried both with and without the University.

No effect.

While I haven't got OP2 running yet, do you have a savegame of that? As far as I know, it should be compatible to test as long as it is the same game version

Not really saying to much, but the Cold War scenario does have bugs in it. Either way, just make sure people are happy, you have lots of food, <100% demand for things, uni, nerc, and lastly, having <20% demand for medi centers.

It depends on your Morale as well.
In Cold War you start with a really low population base, so you really need to keep morale up at all times. If it is low, you population will slowly dwindle. (Consumer Factory can be a big help)

Like Hidiot said, you need that University operational in order have your colony function. Without an operational University you get no new workers - and no new scientists.

The basics to survive is Residences, Agridomes, a Nursury and a University.

Sorry for the incomplete answer earlier, my internet connection must have cut my reply a bit short.

Well I havnt had many problems with alot of these errors in the Plymoth Cold War game, but I also play a highly aggressive micro manage economy style, where I dont attack untill I have my economy stable. What difficulty is it on?

Assume easy, as the higher difficulties are nigh impossible.

On the other hand, once I got a stable base on easy, cold war was kinda a snooze fest.  My biggest problem was actually remembering what to research to get rail guns.  Then, just as I was massing 20 or so thors hammers to annhilate the plymouth base, the game crashed.  I was a sad panda.
