Dumb Quotes
« on: July 22, 2009, 03:10:12 PM »
I came across something on the BBC news website that didn't make sense, so i thought, why not start a new thread with stupid quotes...
Just post the quote, and if possible, include the source (so we know you didn't just make it up)!

"The doctor, who police say is not a suspect, was at Jackson's mansion and tried to revive him before he died."

(shouldn't you revive someone AFTER he dies?)

I suppose you could "revive" someone after they've fainted. But yes, checking the dictionary, it's main use seems to mean bring back to life. But then, if you can "bring someone back to life", have they really died yet? Or are we simply talking some specific medical terminology, like their heart has stopped beating?

Here's a quote for you:
"County to pay $250,000 to advertise lack of funds."
http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-51...ay-250-000.html

Also here:

Along with:
"Volunteers search for old Civil War planes"
Civil War you say?

that makes me think one of two possibilities:
1) they ment plans (in which case they were stupid to not catch that)
2) they mean a different kind of plane (like the wood shaving tool...http://static-p4.fotolia.com/jpg/00/00/63/51/400_F_635169_6ldeBLz02u3wx7z0WghDNXCM12PZEN.jpg)

No, but I felt equally violated just mousing over the link to see where it lead.

I wonder if that article might be about another war. Maybe they just said civil war by accident, or someone really doesn't know their history and doesn't know what the civil war was. Of course it could also have been talking about a civil war in some unknown country. I somehow doubt it though.

I know I don't look into laptops alot, but The Source was offering in the paper, the worst deal i have ever seen for a laptop. It reads:
Intel Core 2 Solo 1.3ghz
4gb of ram
160 Hard Drive
17" Wide Screen
699.99
1.3 ghz for 700$? I got my laptop with 1.6 dual core for 250$ new. Ontop of that, they have stated that it has a "Intel Pentium Inside", when it clearly says Intel Core 2... It was funny.

I can't vouch for the authenticity (because my source couldn't), but at least they're damn funny!
