Bug Found In Op2
« on: January 09, 2007, 04:40:12 AM »
I have found a bug in OP2. I noticed that players cannot see my game unless my internet is on. I hope someone is planning on addressing this issue.

I should not have to expose my computer to the risks of virus and trojans to play a game!

Next thing your going to tell me is that you can't see your own outpost2 game if the monitor is turned off!

I mean you might have to risk your eyes and turn it on to play a game.

Now that would just totally be too risky

It most certainly is annoying.

I mean come on, surly these so called professional games developers can develop a way of playing multiplayer games between people from different countries over the internet. Without actually haveing to use the internet!

Isn't there some ancient magic protocol that can connect to other people all over the world without the use of a single wire or satellite ? :P

Don't be silly Eddy-B you have to use wires or satelites!

You have to have the wire plugged in! Any fool knows that, but you should be able to play with the connection disabled

I mean who wants to play games and browse the internet at the same time, thats just silly!
We want to disable the internet connection and free up all that bandwidth the silly internet connection uses for out multiplayer games.

Haven't you guys heard of the way cool technology of two cans and a string?
Tape the two cans onto the computers which will magically connect them. If you are worried about getting viruses and trojans, you can always put the cans on the stove until they turn fire red.
That should solve your problem for getting connected.

Protection against viruses: put some anti-flu (like tamiflu) in the cans.
Protection against trojans: just look inside them and see if someone is hiding in it, you dummy!

Right, i shall need some help, creating a String network around the world

Anyone know where we can procure a couple of million miles of high quality, high bandwidth string, for cheap?

Next question?

What about the firewall?

Im thinking hoop of fire around the string?

Sounds swell!

Oh, and can we just use thread as in 'needle point' ?  There's probably enough on this planet to go around it a couple million times... but then again, it burns if you heat it up :(

Its not so fun laying down a thread network, do you fancy helping us out and networking a couple of million square miles for us CK9?  You will of course only be paid by your own satisfaction from doing the job!

WOW AND I THOUGHT THE INTERNET WAS JUST A BUNCH OF TUBES... WHO WOUDA THUNK IT?

My problem is, I can't see a game ever! I can't even get others to see my games! I'm stuck on an Island with no multiplay, just Colony games.  :(

Oh my!! This is Hilarious!!!!!! I love your sarcasm Eddy-B and Mez. Oh my! I am actually crying of Laughter.

But  yes, this OUGHT TO be an issue to address... How can I have a  multi player game (with people on the other side of the world) without having internet connection?

lol!!
if anyone finds and communicate to us that which thus far has eluded our efforts, great will be our gratitude.

Thats so old, i'm currently testing the new SILK network using the SPIDER protocol.  It's really good, it produces a WEB.  The SPIDER protocol relies upon the redundancy of multiple SILK routes through the WEB and it is also self repairing, after a short delay!

However there are currently problems with the INSECT protocol, it keeps getting stuck in our pipelines.  Work is now in progress on SPIDER 2.0 to remove this annoyance permanently

Ah, you all are living in the stonage!  Radiowaves with transievers attached to all the birds of the planet!   Theres always a bird somewhere, except at the poles....   Penguines don't count.
The only time I experience lag is when winter comes around and they all migrate south, and its just the crows.   And a pigeon.

Pfft. I use the LIZARD network protocol. Not only are the transmissions more reliable, but there is no need for a firewall.

When low latency is necessary, I switch to the SNAKE protocol. however, sometimes data is lost through a phenomenon known as SHEDding the data.

All these fancy network configurations...

I just put a CONDOM over my RJ45 cable before I plug it in.
