Word
In the beginning was the word.
 – John 1:1

If Word was god,
You would be lame
A devil, not a god.
And everyone
Would die of shame
Because you are so odd.

A box
I tell you to create,
And you delete a line.
You cannot even relocate
A picture of a vine!

There is but one good way to win
A war against a dumb machine:
Since I’m so tired of trying
To make you do things right,
And I don’t feel like buying
A program in a better light,

I will just write my text by hand.
But none would really understand
What I will have achieved.
No one will be relieved
That I no longer fight this war
Against the Word, which makes me sore,
So I’ll press on, just as before:
I’ll fight and fight forevermore.

I cannot beat this bag of steel,
But I could ally it. I feel,
That if I parry long enough,
It may not be so very tough
To find out secrets that await
To be found out – that is their fate.

I will press on, I will succeed,
And God allmighty will be freed.
The Word will roam its empty shores
That, once it thought, all man adores.

So why, then, did you say, O Lord,
“In the beginning was the word?”

Hmm not really. But then the bible and the word aren't exactly supposed to be bad things.

Maybe if you made it more of a gangster rap?

Hmm, I never thought to check, but does Open Office work on Windows? I've only ever seen it on Linux.

Btw Zhukant, how long did it take to write that? That one's of a fairly good length.

Umm, the DOS command "Del" and "Erase" are built into the command prompt. There is no associated exe file. I've always found it odd how unix based OSes seem to have exes for every simple little command shell necessity.

I'd also like to point out that it's "Edit.com" and not "Edit.exe". Also, Edit look suspiciously like QBasic. In fact..., ever tried running "QBasic /Edit" or "QBasic /Editor"? That looks suspicously like the MS-DOS text editor. Now the version of edit.com that comes with Windows XP has gotten somewhat larger than previous DOS versions, but you might wonder how previous versions provided all that text editing support with such a small .com file.

Btw, if you want to complain about text editors, give "vi" a try. The first time I used it, I couldn't even figure out it was supposed to be a text editor. Nor could I figure out how to get out of it. I had to force terminate the app. How's that for user friendliness?
