Title: Outpost 2 Additional Downloads
Post by: kyarng on January 02, 2018, 05:35:45 PM
Just an inquiry.  I am browsing this site for download links for various links mentioned in the forum, only to find there are no active links. Do any of you have current links for the custom missions, multitek2, etc.? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I believe the links are disabled because there were plans to release V1.3.7 of Outpost 2 somewhat soon. Could talk to Vagabond or Hooman for more information.

kyarng,

Welcome to Outpost Universe!

Unfortunately, a lot of links in the forum are broken for various reasons. We do have quite a few new scenarios/missions not included in the current game download, check out this wiki page: https://wiki.outpost2.net/doku.php?id=outpost_2:maps:custom_scenarios. Links to downloads from this page should work (and if not let me know).

If you are interested in multitek2, it would probably be best to message the creator, sirbomber.

Welcome to the forums.

No links were disabled due to an upcoming release. Though things have moved about over the years, leading to some inevitable link rot. We should probably find a way to scan the forums for broken links, and see if anything can be done about some of them.

The wiki probably has the most complete set of download links.

Thanks for the timely replies!  I downloaded the Outpost2DLL program set for Visual Studio, and I was completely lost.  I couldn't figure it out, oh well maybe when I have more time I could give it another try.

The first custom scenario named Distant Noise, for example, links to http://newterrancommandsite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=8
which my browser gives the error of 414 Request-URI too large, I've never saw that error before.  Thanks again for your assistance,

I have absolutely no coding experience other that Arduino, so this is definitely a high learning curve for me.  If any of you have some sort of instruction set for the use of the DLL program, or creating a basic scenario pack for Outpost 2, that would be awesome!

I did run up on the Topic: Outpost 2 Coding 101 so I'll be checking that out.

kyarng,

I fixed the link to the Distant Noise scenario from the wiki page, so you should be able to download it from the wiki now. Thanks for pointing out that it was broken. The New Terran Command Site website was pulled off the web recently, so that link didn't work anymore.

If you are interested in making a scenario, sirbomber's tutorials are a great starting point. I'd also read up on the forum here: https://wiki.outpost2.net/doku.php?id=op2_sdk:software_development_kit_sdk. You will probably want a book on beginner C++ as well.

It would be best to start a new thread in the programming section as this is all getting off topic from the 20 year anniversary.

Agreed, I split and moved the thread.

The Outpost2DLL project is a library for designing new missions. You need to create your own mission project which uses this library. There is also an OP2Helper project with additional functionality to make mission writing a bit easier.

The wiki is a good place to read. I'd recommend reading through Sirbomber's Tutorials "Outpost 2 Coding 101". There are also some tutorial projects and starter templates in the Subversion repository to help get you started.

We're sort of in an awkward transition phase right now, where projects are being moved from the Subversion repository to GitHub. The Outpost2DLL and OP2Helper projects have moved. The mission templates and tutorials have not yet moved.

You can browse the Subversion (SVN) repository contents at:
