Title: Contest!
Post by: xfir on January 21, 2004, 09:59:08 PM
I need a new logo for the Red Alert Skin:

http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/?skinid=9 (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/?skinid=9)

If you can make one that matches the theme and includes "Outpost Universe Forums" as the predominate text, then you could win 1000 credits. You have until Monday (the 26th) to get me your entry!

To enter, either post your image here, or email it to me: xfir[at]xfir.net

The image should be 400 by 100 and in gif format.

Please name your image with your username.

Can we hide our name somewhere in it?

So long as your name isn't the predominate text, I'm fine with the username. But I must warn you, if its too conspicouos, I may dock you (I will be "grading" the logos persay)

The rubric will be like so:

Color Choice
Font Choice
Predominate Features
General Appearance (as in, is it really jagged)

Each member is allowed a mx of 2 submissions.

can they be basically the same thing?

Well, if I deem it an "update" to the previous one, then I'll just replace it. Otherwise, the images have to differ more than 25%.

Due to the lack of actually reading the main posts that lists the rules, I am going to fine you 5 credits.

Sorry X, If I remove the RA TechCenter^2 Forums title, and the shadow, and the faint spiral behind RA, then just replace the name, would you consider that a 25% difference?

As a note, you can put your name on the image. All submitted images become my property, however.

Question: Is that because of the ever occuring dilemma/situation im going to explain below, or is there another reason for it ?

//Story Time
Once upon a time... There was a nice comfy little forum...
Eventually an argument arose which quickly got out of hand, it resulted in several "accidents" and throwing of words... In the aftermath someone told the rest that he was "going to leave the forum..." and that he wanted everything he had brought the community to be removed...
He proceeded to clear out his account remove some posts here and there and leave a nicely written letter of goodbye (? nicely ?) When it was time to remove the nice logo he had made for the forum ( <--- important ) he noticed that it was hosted on the forum server which he did not have access to...
Argument arises again as he "demands" "HIS" logo to be removed, the forum doesn't want this and well... This guy still haunts the very same forum today after thousands of years...

That is disturbing, and i don't think that shall happen here since we are all cooperative with each other. Now how would i even begin to work on a skin like that without the software?

I say that, Zircon, because then I don't owe any royalties to the author should I use it.

Its is a simple way to prevent any legal actions. And it works.

2. or that he shouldn't even try because he won't be able to comptete....

Looks pretty good. But needs work and i think the vechs look to small or distorted in a way.

I have Photoshop. (I think Zircon does too)

Here's a "5 minute" one that I made in about 5 minutes (well more like 10 but it would have been 5 if photoshop didn't keep crashing)

The grid? Well I took the header from the categories (you have to look at the html source to get the image source   ) and then I copied the middle portion over and over (using MSPaint, pixel by pixel copying is a bit easier than in photoshop)

Then I loaded that bitmap in Photoshop, made a new layer in my logo, pasted it in and applied some blending to the layer.

You are such newbs at PS ppl. The way to do the grid is to open up a new file in PS7 make it 4/4 pixels make one line on top and one on the site youll get like a half square then select the whole thing using the marquee tool and them make it in to a pattern. Then select an image right click and use fill chose your new patern and you have a grid with out the pixel by pixel ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....
Title: Contest!
Post by: BlackBox on January 23, 2004, 04:32:56 PM
oh yeah...I forgot about patterns.

Well photoshop kept crashing and giving me stuff about the scratch disks because my hard drive has like 30 mb free on it.....

So everytime I opened a new document it would spew out all these errors.

I know, you make the steps in paint, you paste the layers in the photoshop, and then you use imageready to give motion.
Title: Contest!
Post by: it2000us on January 23, 2004, 06:34:08 PM
NO NO AND NO, u dont use pain, hell no, u use Photoshop because everything you can do in paint you can do 100% better in Photoshop, then u move to imageready.

I use paint because I like it a lot better.  adobe photoshop is only good for minor adjustments.
Title: Contest!
Post by: it2000us on January 23, 2004, 06:52:50 PM
Thats not true, PS is much superior to paint, it just takes time to get used to PS. Then u can do all sorts of things, like for example my logo.
Title: Contest!
Post by: xfir on January 23, 2004, 06:58:27 PM
Its difficult to get used to any image editing program. But one of the main benefits it has over paint is that it you can do so much more with it.. gradients, more colors (I mean, 64 bit beats 256 any day). Not only that, but also the vector editing tools and font options.

By the way, it2000us, if you wish to submit a logo then I need a GIF..

As another note, the max size will be set to 800 by 120 pixels (or less).. this is due to the fact that most people run at 800 by 600.

Other than that, please return to the topic. This thread is for asking about the rules or submitting a logo.

I have selected your logo (but have made a couple small modifications).

But, it was a tough decision.

I would like to thank everybody for submitting one, and hopefully in the future we can have another contest like this.

Thanks.
