i redownloaded this mission pack, and unfortunately the game freezes at mission completion at the first mission regardless of difficulty level, (i played all three). now along time ago i played this mission pack without issue. but ive only recently downloaded the latest op2 patch and renegades to this computer. was curious if anyone else has played this recently.

As far as I know, Renegades is made for version 1.3.4 of Outpost 2. Maybe its not compatible with 1.3.5
-
well it seems renegades doesnt like my pc very much then. i tried 1.3.5 , 1.3.4 and even the 1.3.3 from the renegades site.
the mission plays fine without crashing. but regardless of version or difficulty it freezes after mission completion.
looks like this every time, (version changes ofc)

Anyone have any recent experience with Renegades ? I don't see why it would need 1.3.4 to work correctly.
It installs and runs fine on 1.3.5 but I don't have time to play through the missions at the moment.
Also if you are looking for the installer here it is: renegades1-4.exe (http://files.outpostuniverse.org/campaign/renegades1-4.exe)
And some more info on the wiki: wiki.outpost2.net/Outpost_Renegades (http://wiki.outpost2.net/Outpost_Renegades)
I hope Eddy-B returns one day :)

Without having the source, I can only guess but I'm going to assume that this is a pointer error of some sort. Probably wild/dangling pointer or stack thrashing. All sorts of fun to be had with that.
Would love to get my hands on the source and see what I can do to fix these kinds of errors.
-
I hope Eddy-B returns one day :)
LOL - might happen some day
Who knows....
-
Would appear 'SOME day' has come. :D :D
-
not just yet..
need to sort out some personal issues still
not to mention : get a hold of my old PC, which contains all my OP2-data.
-
Ahh, but we saw possibilities. In that spirit of optimism, we named that day "today". Eddy-B came with the best of intentions, to post, code, and publish. And for a time, he did.
... but then conflict arose? ... and a splinter campaign was formed? ... Nah, it wasn't. These two philosophies can not co-exist. :p
-
And upon the seventh day of the fourth month, the prophesized one appeared, bringing with him much hope. The people rejoiced, for they had long awaited such days. As quickly as hope had reared its head, it dimmed, for the possibility if the scripture being lost was brought to lifht.
Sorry, couldn't resist since I keep popping in so much later than everyone else :p
-
Nicely done Hooman :)
Looking forward to some updates from Eddy-B!
-
Perhaps a kickstarter project would spark my interest to continue working on this? ;D
-
When I tried playing Renegades, the game also crashes at the end of the first level. It says mission accomplished, but then hangs before transitioning to the storyline/mission briefing screen.
Is there any ideas on how to bypass missions manually?
It crashed when I tried loading with Outpost 2 versions 1.3.5 and 1.3.4 on my computer on Normal difficulty.
-
Does the debug menu work with Renegades? Try hitting "D" at the main menu, and see if you can start the next campaign mission from there.
Eddy-B, post your source code please! :D
-
Downloaded and tried. No go, freezes end of first mission.
Also I pulled op2ext.dll and op2extra.dll out before running the installer. The installer comes with its own (OP2 will run again after installer is done, reads as OPU Version 1.3.4), freezes end of first mission.
I have not loaded the music.rar files yet. Try that next.
And no, the original debug menu 'D' function is inop.

Wouldn't mind getting my hands on the code. Should be able to debug it and get it working.

Hey guys,
I bought Outpost 2 back when it was released and loved it after playing the demo as little kid. Now I recently remembered, installed and played it after coming across the site, it's still awesome after such a long time!
Literally today I discovered this community project called Renegades...about 10 years too late it seems :(, as I'm having the same crash issue after finishing mission 1. Now I'm aware that we obviously won't see a fix for this anymore...but my question is:
Does anyone still have OP2 1.3.3 and could upload it here? Google yielded nothing, and I thought it may be worth a try to see if it may work even though the OP was unlucky with this.
Not having played the whole Renegades campaign is not an option!
Many thanks,
Commander

I don't see that particular version anywhere. It's not on the Outpost 2 download page (http://outpost2.net/gamedownload.php). It's also not tagged in the SVN repository (https://svn.outpostuniverse.org:8443/!/#outpost2/view/head/GameDownload/Outpost2/tags) (the link will show a security warning due to a bad certificate). I think that version was from before we seriously started tracking changes.
-
Thanks for summarising, unfortunately that's what I expected...the only chance would be an individual who's uploading his/her version.
-
It's entirely possible the bug is unrelated to the version.
-
This is my suspicion. Really wish I could take a look at that code.
-
I just installed Renegades over top of the current development version from the repository and played it under Wine. There was no crash as the end of mission 1. I was able to proceed on to mission 2. I played on the easiest difficulty setting. Again though, this was under Wine, on a Linux system, not on Windows.
-
Hooman,
Did you save/load the mission while playing? I wonder if the crash is related to some data not being saved properly.
-
I did not. That might be worth looking into.
-
I just tried playing through on Easy without saving. The game still crashed at the end for me. I used the Outpost 2 game from the repository (GameDownload) and placed the actual files at C:/Program Files/Outpost 2 Divided Destiny.
Using Windows 7 64 bit.
Not sure what is allowing it to work on wine and no where else...
-
Suspicion -- 64-Bit alignment issues. Not sure if Wine runs in 32 or 64 bit mode or if it emulates 32 or 64 bit mode.
Suspicion 2 -- Wine emulates older windows functions that current windows does not.
-
As I recall, the version of OP2 we're marketing as 1.3.5 has an outdated version of the mod loader. That might be worth investigating.
-
Maybe we could just blame Address Space Layout Randomization again and call it a day? :P
On a more serious note, crash details will be needed to debug this. Being able to easily and reliably reproduce the crash also helps. Perhaps a saved game from just before the crash would help. Details about where Renegades was downloaded from might also be important, just in case there are different versions floating about.
-
Just tried finishing mission 1 without saving - unfortunately without avail. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit too.
I've downloaded this version of Renegades: http://newterrancommandsite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=129
I did save the game after winning mission 1 before it crashes, save file attached if that helps finding out where the error is.
-
Downloaded. I shall now feel guilty every time I see the file and do nothing to investigate.
(That works much better than me trying to commit to an actual date to look into this).
-
I think SGAME10.REN is just the metadata file for the 10 saved game slots. You probably want to post a different file.
-
Alright, here's the actual savegame. I thought because of the small file size it'd make sense als "Mission Accomplished" savegame, but in hindsight it must be one of the bigger files as the last seconds you still see the "battlefield".
-
I just got "Error reading file", trying to load it. Interesting. That may be a clue. I should try it out on a VM.
Honestly though, I'm going to procrastinate on this for a bit.
