I can't seem to be able to connect to the chat. Is this just me or is it actually down?
-
I couldn't connect to the server for 5 hours. But now its back.
-
Is the server down again? I haven't been able to connect since last night.
-
I haven’t been disconnected the whole night. :/
I guess that server is really buggier than I thought.
-
i was able to connect yesterday, but now i cant. my clients working... but I cant connect
-
Seems to be down again.
-
Seems that way at the moment. Bummer <_<
-
And down again.
EDIT: Back up.
-
The server seems to be down, again. I wasn't able to connect to it within the last few days.
-
Yup, looks like the server is down.
-
The xmpp server is still down.
-
Yes I am still having that problem, too
-
We could just switch to a Skype group. From what I hear, there is a 24 participant limit, but I doubt that we'd ever reach that. People could then choose to keep it in text chat or split off into their own calls if they wish. Maybe a stupid thought, but the main benefit I see to it is that we'd never have problems with a chat server being down.
-
I kind of dislike Skype though.

Same here.
Imo we should go back to Quakenet (irc) if no one brings back the xmpp chat.
-
I'm not the biggest fan of it either, but it has been rather useful for me. The only thing I didn't like about IRC was that a lot of the channel settings were over-written by the Quakenet server owner. Things like voice were fairly useless. However, with how the community overall has aged, I don't think that would be a problem.
-
I hate bringing back old topics from the dead but this is pretty relevant -- I wanted to try connecting via spark but it would appear the server is down? Unable to connect. I could use IRC but I stopped using it ages ago.
-
No one knows why the xmpp server went down. You can read this (http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5668.0.html) ore join #Outpost2 on Quakenet irc (as you obviously already did).

There are plenty of old topics around here to resurrect leeor_net :)
I was disappointed to hear that OPU's IRC was lost and then OPU moved to XMPP. IRC was used for many years and very familiar to many users. The main issue was the mIRC/NNS client that most used being over complex for some users (eg people who had never used it before) for the simple task of joining the community chatroom.
Great to catch a few of you on IRC over the holidays. A note to all: We have a channel #outpost2 on irc.quakenet.org. This was infact our first IRC channel for OPU created back in 2003. We stayed here for 6+ months before moving to our own IRC server/network.

Yeah... that's what prompted me to sign in today after getting a whole lot of chirping crickets for the last few weeks with no replies to my posts here. :/
-
Aha! I can post! For the first time in years, I can finally post on OPU.
It feels good being home.
Anyway, I have a dedi and a reseller-account web server for life. I can host anything we need within reason. I can point the DNS your way so you wont have to worry about any horus fiddling. Just an idea. I think I'll go make a reintroduction thread....
-
Hey dude! Welcome back :) Hope all is well with the family.
Yeah I have a many dedi's as I sell hosting/VPS etc. Servers are not an issue. Thanks for the offer.
Also great to see some visitors and chat on OPU IRC again :)
