Okay, I was shown a "new" band Volbeat, and they are awesome. Like, music that has no ONE genre, it spans several.
This got me to wondering, what music do you guys like?
List a name/ song. I can't really post 1 song from Volbeat, because they go from like 60's rock, to Metal...
-
One of my alltime favorite bands:
Boy Sets Fire
Their music is all aimed at making people look at the status quo and realize how screwed up it is and to encourage people to change the system.
-
hehe Maynard. is the number one thing you will hear from my car. but thats all depending on what i am doing to what music i am listening to. I listen to every thing. and thats not the untrue cookie cutter responce. I may not know WHO im listening to but thats not important though some people can be very anal about it. And since i have a subwoofer in my car i tend to listen to alot of techno rave trance stuff. while playing with sock poi in the walmart parking lot. wooooooooo

i wish there was a like button on the forum now :P
you like techno Berry Benasi is a good techno ( I think I spelled his name wrong, but just type it into youtube )

I personally listen to a lot of different music. Generally it's trance/house/electro or something else you can dance to, if not that then possibly death metal (yes, I know the two aren't related at all). There is certainly some music in the middle as well.
As an aside, I went to see Tiesto (a very well known dutch DJ) on April 1st.

Then you might be slightly interested in Bad Religion.
-
Some system of a down is similar to that.
-
Similar to what/which?
-
its all sounds and wave forms to me.

I have a rather strange hodgepodge of songs. I find it hard to classify a lot of it by genre. It's often more like a collection of oddities lacking a unifying theme, or even a unifying language. I've got music in about 10 different languages that I can think of. (Most of which I don't understand). I suppose the best unifying theme for a lot of it is having a "where the heck did you get this" factor to it.
A large portion of what I have are miscellaneous things like German marching songs, communist marching songs, poisoning pigeons in the park, or rhymes about the periodic table of the elements, all the nations of the world, or food additives. Fun party songs. :P (Just in case you ever get invited to that kind of party).
I also have a rather large pile of video game music.
I suppose if I wanted to be very general, I could say I have a lot of English language music, although, I probably listen to more Chinese language music. Lately I've been listening to Hakka folk songs, and Mandarin pop songs. Currently I'm hooked on some stuff from S.H.E. and Jay Chou. A lot of the non-Chinese stuff I've been listening to lately is the kind of thing you can dance to. But, like, Argentine tango, tango, foxtrot, waltz, cha cha, jive, lindy hop, and west coast swing kind of dance. Not exactly typical club music. Strangely enough, I also listen to a fair bit of salsa music, but don't actually have a single salsa song of my own. Oh, and the Inception sound track is also pretty good.
Well, nice thread. Now I have a few more good leads on possibly strange or exotic sources of music to collect. :)
*/me klepto's your music*

-
if i had my hard drive with me i could drop a epic list.
-
Do it dude!
-
no i refuse
-
Freeza, wheres that list huh?
Note: Anyone who has a list, add stuff to it. I'm sure your music doesn't just stagnate.
-
Believe it or not, I don't listen to music, at all. I drive with my radio off, I don't have an MP3 payer, or a CD player. I never really understood why people listened to music. However if someone is playing music near me, I don't object, nor does it affect me.
-
There are a large number of reasons. When I'm frustrated as hell, loud music helps me vent enough to think clearly. Music keeps me more focused (for lack of a better word) while driving. Sometimes it's just about the feel of the vibrations of the sounds going through you.
Anyone else care to add to this?

Music has historically represented emotion. and for a good reason. the ties between sound and emotion are so tight that when you hear upbeat music you will notice you tend to be happier or more annoyed(only when its overly childish music XD.) down beat music will often leave you with a feeling of sadness or in some cases understanding(sorta like booze after a bad break up i guess.) in fact, monotonous sounds can help you sleep(the tick tock sound often subliminally reminds us of our time in the womb.) soft music often has the same effect.
the best example though would be the orchestra playing this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCfWHqrYUqo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCfWHqrYUqo)
basically, this sound tells you ''oh f***! he's dead/screwed/character-killed''
theres what i could add. though i must admit, i only listen to music when others put it on.
-
setting the pace and loosing track of time.
also alot of people try to find meaning in music. Some songs there is others not so much.
some times i use music as a massage parlor. turn on my dual 12 inch subs blasting 4000 watts of power and just sit in the back seat oh god it feels good.
mostly i would just say its about listening to some thing that appeals to your mood attitude personality or it just sounds nice. this is why alot of teens listen to music like emo and emo-ish stuff so young so rebellious. it could also be products of environment. people listening to certain musics because they were brought up around them or maybe the music makes a simular connection to there environment like country or the inner city.
its a interesting form of expression.
there are times i drive with no music on. i just want to hear the sounds of the road and the car as i drive down the highway 120mph.

SOAD has meaning to their lyrics, and Coheat and Cambria has an actually story going through their albums.
However, I agree, some music is just... there.
I agree on the "mood" songs. I listen to the big bass, heavy guitar stuff becuase it appeals to me. But, being raised in 'country'/'middle of freaking nowhere' I also like country.
I'll just stare out of a window when the music isn't on and listen as well... good to know I'm not the only one.

Thread ressurection!
After looking through some of those lists I'm rather unimpressed at the variety..
I'll admit my list is sadly not very long at the moment as I"m cut off from my main collection back home, but I listen to pretty much everything except rap and some of the boyband sounding rock bands. Really big into Hard Rock and several varieties of metal. Heres what I do have on my laptop atm:
3 Doors Down
12 Stones
Amorphis
Another Black Day
Apocalyptica
Avenged Sevenfold
Casting Crowns
Delain
Five Finger Death Punch
Katra
Lafee
Leaves' Eyes
Nightwish
Skillet
Tantric
Theory of a Deadman
Unfortunantly thats not nearly enough music to satisfy my needs, so I spend a lot of time listening to online radio stations such as New Eden Radio, and browsing through Youtube.
-
Hah, Ponies have taken up the majority of my music interests >.>
Confound these ponies. They drive me to make music.
-
I find YouTube is pretty good for finding new songs to listen to.
My new favourite, for the time being:
Sarah Geronimo - Dahil Minahal Mo Ako (Because I Love You)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omMe0xnqQ6I (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omMe0xnqQ6I)
I think this singer has a really beautiful voice.
-
Every time I go to youtube now I find myself listening to something by Two Steps from Hell. I'm drowning in the epicness!
-
so ive been around youtube lately, i found an alsome band their now my favorite.
