Unfortunately, tubes are not owned by anyone. They are tiles. Therefore, they are either visible to everyone, or completely invisible.

Also, if you manage to remove the tube graphics from the game, you can use the 'terrain type' mode on the mini map in combination with zoom to find tubes. Heck, you could even select 'destroy' on your earth worker and just pan around the map looking for a spot. My point is, the tube graphics have really no impact on game mechanics, the game will still tell you where they are in many ways.

It would be a good idea for an extra option though.

From a realism point of view, a simple sonar system mounted on the earthworker would reveal the location of underground tubes (I think its sonar anyway).

Current technology has tons of ways of tracking things below ground. Even if the tubes were invisible to the naked eye, they would be so easy to detect that they might as well just be visible anyway.

Well... since tubes slow down units that pass over them, it can be quite useful... Maybe having both tube types? you could use surface tubes on the part of the colony the enemy comes by, just to try and buy yourself some time and use underground tubes on the part where your Vehicle Factories are, to decrease travel time to the CC or something like that...

Well it IS strategical as it is to remove a opponents tubes, if theyre foolish to leave one looooong path between stuff. Methinks thats why it was made so.

Uh... No? Driving on tubes makes a unit move faster.

Faster compared to what type of terrain type?

You have my assurance that if you test it out, a unit moving on bulldozed terrain moves faster than one on a terrain with tubes on it...

Faster compared to regular terrain. Everything is faster than regular terrain.

What regular terrain?

If you're referring to the gray dirt, I'm not sure... Haven't tested that out yet.
