Hey, all! I'm Marauder_Pilot.

If you're a Mechwarrior: Dark Age fan, I'm Maraduer on MWRealms and WizKids (Although I rarely visit WK anymore), and Marauder_Pilot on Comstar ROM and Solaris 7.

I LOVE Outpost 3, and, a while back, offered to remake Knux's site. However, stuff caught up with me, and I wasn't able to do that. However, if Kunx wants, I'll still do that. Actually, I'm working on an Outpost 3 website as I type!

Anywho, my REAL name is Don, I live in St.Thomas, Ontario, I'm 16, and spend WAY too much time at my PC. WAY too much time.

I love Outpost 2, and, to a lesser extent, Outpost.

I do some VB programming, and will be learning C++ next year in my Grade 12 Computers class.

Aside from Outpost 2, I play Red Alert 2 alot, and spend too much time in any Mechwarrior or Battletech game I can find. I'm a HUGE Battletech fan. I play Mechwarrior: Dark Age, and am getting into Classic Battletech.

I'd like to do anything I can for Outpost 3-either of them-so, If you have menial, simple work, send it to me!

Hello. My name is Silverion. I am AKA Digital Ice. I play OP2, Wolfenstein:Enemy Territoy, Call of Duty, and Runescape. I am active on thefunnyfarm.net, a host to many clans, including the clan I am in called{iCs}, a clan focusing on FPS games like W:ET and CoD. I might think about joining one for OP2...

Anyways, I host my own website, available at http://digital.dyns.net (http://digital.dyns.net). I keep information about those games I play on that site, aswell as downloads, music, webgames, and funny videos...

I've been on the internet since 1995 ish. I have gone by many nicks until Digital Ice came to me. I used that prominently through 2000-2002, I just now came up with Silverion about six months ago.

I program for The Palace chat client, I know HTML, CSS, VB, Javascript, BASIC, and CyBasic.

Thank you for your welcomes and all that, and I hope that I can be a part of this community very well. :D

Hello,

I've been interested in reverse engineering Outpost 2 for years now but I always get too busy and forget about it before making much progress. I've been reading the posts on the topic and I'm fairly impressed with how far you guys are getting. I'm interested in helping out on this (although I tend to be a little busy). I have a fair bit of experience in C/C++ and x86 Assembly (among other languages like VB, Java, Pascal, etc. and some assembly for the Sparc with a bit of 68k, 6502, MIPS, Itanium, PDP-11) I have a lot of experience in finding out how various games store their data as well as tracing though assembly code. I've managed to make various simple editors (Hex codes work for me  :D  ) for a number of games including: Pax Imperia, Warcraft, Warcraft II (not much point I admit), Dune2, Dune 2000 (I actually bothered with graphics for this one :D  ), Civ, Civ II, Legend of the Red Dragon, Usurper, and especially Trade Wars, countless emulator games, etc. Come to think of it, there aren't many games I own that I haven't tried editing in some way.

Anyways, I'm nearing the end of a Computer Science degree (Honours) with a concentration in Game Design. (Actually a combined degree with Pure Math honours and a concentration in cryptography, for those who care  :D  )

So, in short, I can follow along with the posts on the OP2 DLL's, PE headers, etc. and I'm interested in helping out. Anyone working on that stuff want to point me in a particular direction they need work on?

I'm called Philippe. 17 years old and I live in Quebec, Canada.

I played my first Outpost 2 game 5 or 6 years ago . After what I slowly stopped, having only my friend to play with, after WON was shut down. I checked every 6 month maybe what was new in the Outpost X universe, and now I find this forum and IRC channel.

I'm a BSD/linux user since 3 years, I know basic programming using C, php, C++, but nothing big, I'm still not in university and I study Pure and Applied Science into the CEGEP.

I really hope that the user base is still strong enough to improve the game in the upcoming release .. if there is one .. or just to provide a hot nest where we can gather and play a good game when we feel like it.

From now on I'll stay tuned to keep me up to date, in case I can contribute.
Cheers.

Hi anyone who has nothing better to do than read this post (I mean who cares about new posts. lol)!  I'm Mark Cartwright from Belrin, Gemany.  I am, however, an American citizen (a Texan, at that) and enjoy playing Outpost 2.  It is really an outstanding game and would be even more fun to play with other people; but, sadly, I have not yet had the opportunity to sharpen my skills by playing head-to-head over LAN or TCP/IP.
It's been a couple of weeks (I think) since I've joined, and so I'm finally putting up this introduction/bio.  I have a couple of Q's about playing IRC, though.  Can it be done within a LAN?  Can OP2 be played freely across the Internet even though I may be in a LAN?  I heard that sometimes the IP for every computer in a LAN is identical for Internet servers.  Might that pose a problem?
I am not an OP2 master, however.  I played it a LOT when I had it 6 years ago, but then gave the game to a friend.  Now, though, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the OPU team, I can play one of my favorite strategy games again!
Anyway, if someone wants to play a game with me, I'm game.  And, if you want to practice your German, Russian, or whatever, I like to practice foreign languages, too.  Oh, by the way, I'm 18 and I graduated from high school last Friday, June 25th.  Looking forward to some games and chats!

Hello, I'm Nomi, or Sarah to those who know me.  I found this site when searching Google on a whim.  I haven't played OP2 in several years, but I used to a lot back when WON was still up and active.  It's a shame Sierra gave up on it, but we all know that so I needn't lament the fact!

I'm 22 and in college right now.

I like RPGs, strategy games, and adventure games.

I was one of the leaders of the old Jedi clan back in the day, going by:
Mistress Nomi [Jedi]£.  I don't know how many of you remember that clan or its leaders, but I still see Masters Kadesh and Borden from time to time, and Master Kish is my brother, so I see him a lot!  We were founded during the time KORT was still around, and if I remember right, Black Dragon separated from us to form their clan.  I hope there aren't still hard feelings!  Anyway, it's good to see at least a few references to familiar names and events.  I read elsewhere that Snappy is doing well and is at an AirForce academy.  Good for him!  Anyway, I'm off to post in clan threads!

Hello everyone.  I think its about time I registed here, since I'm a long time Outpost 2 fan.  I could put a decent bet in that I've played Outpost 2 longer than anyone here!  I've been playing since the original demo, and I got the game as soon as it came out (When it was still costly).  I played a fair bit of multiplayer back in the SIGS days,  but I haven't kept up with things since it got shut down.  Anyways maybe if I can figure out how to use all this multiplayer stuff I can get playing again.

Heeeeys!

I played OP2 on SIGS / Won right until they were shut down. I'm not sure what name I was under... I only remember that I almost always played as Plymouth.

I've been checking up on the Outpost community every so often. And I recently did again.

I'm glad to see there's still a community for what was such a great series (well, I've never played the first one).

My name is Liz.  I've been playing OP2 for a few years.  I'm stuck and it's driving me insane!  Not to mention my copy will not let me choose options anymore, it is stuck on hard. :(  I love the game very much, even though I have played and beat it several times I still keep playing.  I have not found another game just like it, have been looking though.  Found this forum by looking for a manual, mine is in a box somewhere in the shed, for my step-son to play the tutorial.  Hope someone can help me on this dang level.

Hello All...

I was once known as the person ¤ÅM¤ Leviathan, or later known as {PÅ}Shady.

At one point in time I created a clan, it was called the Årcane Mystics.
Within 2 weeks of indoctrination, the Arcane Mystics were the 3rd most powerful clan, at the time, compared to Panthers and Shadows.

After many good games, and many fuedal arguments in WON, I decided to disband the AM along with fellow founder Atma.

I decided to create a guild of gamers well known to all of WON. I talked with a few of my friends, Falcon and Stalking Panther, and we decided (after a long conversation with falcon) we would call it the Patriarch Alliance. Not a clan, but an order of clans. Or as some would see, a training ground to get into a clan.

Original Founders: Atma Arcane, Falcon (Freelance), Stalking Panther, Shady Panther.

Now it's almost 2 years later, and I have no contact with Stalk, or Falcon

Would like to get back in touch with all my old friend and enemies!

Paco, Riledo, Rondt, Norad, etc...

Later Later
Shady

This is Norad,

I first started playing in 1999 op2 was the first pc game i everplayed, and the first game i ever played online.  My first clan was Team Fox clan after that  I hooked up with Admiral S3 and followed him all the way to ADL ( Alpha Defense League)   Im 23 now and was happy as a pig in crap when i stumbled onto a site  where some guy was disgruntled about the new management of this new Op2 cummunity , but he was nice enuff to leave a link.

Op2 attracted alot of game designers...programers hackers..   when WON was on its way out i always wondered why none of these computer savvy people took up the torch. God knows if i was as smart with this stuff as some of you guys i would have lol but im glad lev and his crew did their thing and it looks great.

Thanks alot guys, keep it going!! (thumbsup)

Hello. I'm 22, 5"7', blonde, and enjoy quiet walks on the beach and candle lit dinners. I like younger men who aren't afraid to cry.
(the above is completely fake, but it sounded convincing, eh? Looking back on it, I can't believe what I just wrote. Ahem. And just to ease any confusion, I'm not gay. So let's move on.)

In case it isn't blindingly obvious, I've been here a long time, but don't think I've written anything here. Not big on introducing myself. Anyways, I'm crazy, to say the least. I think somebody asked if I was bipolar once... might have been panda, but don't quote me on that. Oh yeah, Plymouth sucks and Eden doesn't. I like Space Race, especially ones without fighting. Nice break from having to rush around mass-producing vecs. Of course, you're still mass-producing starship parts, but oh well.

And for the last time, I am NOT a communist!!!

Hi, y'all!

I'm Wild_Targ just about everywhere I go, so if you see it or a variation thereof, it's probably me.  I'm on MSN, Yahoo!, and AIM using Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com) (but not ICQ or IRC yet), took classes on Visual Basic and C++ but then a lot of life events happened.  Now I'm just married, and just getting back into using my computer after two years of chaos and uncertainty.  There's more about me on my profile (just in case someone is curious), and I only have 1.5 right now.  Might download 2 v 1.3.3 or 1.3.4 in the near future.
I have been using computers from age eleven, know DOS and some broken UNIX command-line, never quite got into computers professionally, and really like the atmosphere of OP1.5 (although I must confess the gameplay is wacky and waaaaay to abstract to be rightly called a 'game'; more like a managerial simulator).

(((THX)))

Well I found my way to the old forums and was disappointed to see hardly any activity.  Then I found this one!  w00t!

I'm PrincessLadyBug. That's a lot to type so feel free to call me LB or Bugley.

I'm probably old enough to be your mother, but I'm a geek girl and I play a few games when real life leaves me some fun time.

I got into OP2 about 4 years ago. I played it for a while and then real life stepped in and cut my gaming time. I'm back at it and more than a little rusty. I know it's lame but I like the colony games and I'm having trouble keeping my colonists alive. Those little buggers don't reproduce fast enough. :P

I've already found a few hints, so thanks!

Hope to see some of you around,
LB

P.S. You know who hears me scream in cyberspace? My neighbors. These walls are pretty thin.

When I first tried the Outpost 2 demo, I found it lacking, as it barely gave any instruction as to how to complete the demo mission (evacuating an Eden or Plymouth colony prior to a volcanic eruption) and little explanation of the gameplay mechanics. It wasn't until I was attempting to reinstall Lords of the Realm 2 that I saw an advert for Outpost 2 on the back of the Siege Pack's manual. I had heard decent things of it from another contact, and with my curiousity and sense of adventure on the move, decided to check OP2 out for the hell of it. I found OPU by sheer luck - though the link I followed was broken, I was not one to give up easily, and made my way to the main page, and then went after Outpost 2.

At first, without the manual or wiki to aid me, I found things... quite tough, actually. But I persisted. Eventually, over the scheme of the first few Plymouth campaign missions, a few Colony Games and a quarter-dozen Space Race skirmishes with a close friend, I picked up all the necessary mechanics and know-how to make the game (and my colonies) work relatively smoothly. I admit I still don't know the ins and outs of the tech tree, and I've only been playing for... two or three days, tops, but I managed to learn it quickly.

My plans here? Kick the wiki into gear and get it organized. It's a terrible mess and many pages are just blank and imageless. Maybe try my hand at some online games (I do not play very aggressively, so not exactly suited for Last One Standing) and/or map making.

I'm from the UK, and live in Cambridge. I prefer using Hamachi to play online as my router and firewall are a touch finicky.

'nuff said.

Greetings guys.

Name is Tim, from Seattle, WA area. Born September '86

My uncle, who happens to be a mechanical engineer for Aerospace introduced me to Outpost a while back. Enjoyed it but I had gotten used to RTS by that time, so the turn-based was a little difficult to grasp. Outpost 2 obviously made that change and I enjoyed for years until I lost the CD.

I'm glad this site exists.

I'm a Computer Science/Computer Engineering major in school, so while I'm not super familiar with any particaular lanugage at this point, I am pretty interested in dev (wiki or OP 3). Looked into working with the Homeworld community as well, but haven't been able to work around school/the rest of my life.

Hello, My name is Steven, I own Outpost1.5 on CD and recently dug it out of the file cabinet and reinstalled it on my laptop.  The first attempt was failure, but then I tried to reload and avoided the system test, and low and behold I ended up with a sucessful download on Windows XP.  Everything runs wonderful, and it has always been one of my fav's.  I would like to expand it beyond the limited old CD.  So I am only hoping to maybe pray that can happen here.  I live in the northestern lower peninsula of Michigan on the Lake Huron shoreline.  I work nights at a Hotel and have been there for 29 years....  (kind of lets you know my age somewhat.)  This is my first forum that I've signed onto, so I may need help getting familiar with this.

Well..  I remember when OP1 was released, I was enrolled in Electronic Game Design.  I remember the hype and the dissapointment that was so palitable over it's release.  Friend of mine bought it and had trouble running it stable.  Of course he'd pre-ordered it and got essentially the beta version.   Most of the gaming community then promptly delegated Outpost to defunct history.
In recent years I'd been poking around at old games to see old ideas from a fresh perspective.  To see that a community of Outpost fans actually existed was a bit of a surprise.  I'm interested to give Outpost a second chance.  Hope I can get it working on WinXP  I don't seem to be having the success that others here have enjoyed.

Anyway..  I'm quite a bit older that the rest of ya.   Reside in Canada, Male, Married.  EX Game Designer.

I was cleaning out my computer room when I found my outpost 1 and 2 discs and most of the manuals. I fired them up and found out that multiplayer no longer worked :(. I typed ["outpost 2" multiplayer] into google and hit I'm feeling lucky. This site popped up so I joined. I remember this game was awesome back in the day and I'm glad some other people still play. I haven't played this in ages so I probably suck, so bear with me.

About me: I'm currently at a college in my state (I'll tell in a game but not in public) majoring in electrical engineering and minoring in computer science. If anyone else knows how to mod or wants to start shoot me a pm. I just turned 19 on February first w00t. I know C/C++, VB, and Java. If anyone can give me a few pointers (hehe pun) on how to start modding and adding to the game I'm really interested so please shoot me a PM.

Is there a place where I could see all the statistics like range, damage, colonist growth rates at different morale levels?

Perhaps, but I would probably be a ghost my former self :).  The time invested in this game to know the fastest build order and the research tech tree backwards and forwards is probably long gone from my memory capacity.

Been reading over some threads and noticed some people think us "PA" People were cheaters.  It has been almost 8 years since I last played and still being called cheaters is a badge of honor in my opinion.

I don't think most realized back then, or now, that myself and the others like Falcon and Stalking were pretty much the originators of the build/research order and even the no mark style game play.  We were also the ones who popularized the 3 by 2 ore collection method.  3 smelters and 2 cargo trucks per smelter for each mine that was pretty much the standard used.

I still remember Stalking and I teaching Rondt how to play the game.  Come to think of it, I wonder what ever happened to my friends.  Kind of fell out of touch with any of them after about 2001 when I went on to College.

Disagree, but its matter of personal opinion.  High Mark games were the standard until our "crew" I guess you could call it started doing No Mark stuff.  When its a race to see who can compete the fastest it is more thrilling then the slow paced mark game play.

not in my opinion.  When you're just rushng to be the first one with weapons, you are not using strategy at all.  That's why I always play on big maps instead of pie :P

Post by: Hidiot on July 07, 2009, 02:03:51 AM
Yes, no mark game removes the full potential of this game. If you're really that good and fast, then you'll do just as fine in a long mark game.

Especially since in low mark games, Eden is at a disadvantage. Such big of a disadvantage that hey can't compensate. In long mark games, however, the balance shifts in favor of Eden, but Plymouth can still use tactics (a lot of tactics) to make use of their own advantages and stand a good chance against them.

Don't worry about being a cheater today. Cheats are removed. You can only be a n00b tactic user, which gets you rapidly hated.

I'd actually disagree with you there Hidiot. I'd say a No mark game opens up the full potential of the game. As CK9 so wrongly puts it, it's not about who gets weapons first, it's a lot more than that. You always have to watch what your enemy is doing - can you afford to expand to a second mine or will your opponent take you down because you waste ore on just that ? You can go for stronger units or better techs ? Upgrade of smelters to get more ore or upgrade of units ?
As it were back then, games with no mark could usually go past mark 1000 or higher, because no clear advantage could be decided until then.

With a high mark game you just get everything in the package by the time the mark is up and the games outcome is usually decided by location rather than skill. Get a place with easy to defend bottlenecks and you'll easily ravage anyone caught out in the open.

Sure, Eden stands no chance in a 1 vs 1 situation in a small map vs Plymouth. But, toss in a big distance between players or a few allies and it's by no means impossible to survive as Eden.

I guess Miz is referring to PÅ players virtually being the best players when they were around - so naturally they were accused of cheating when they usually won vs nub's. never caught any of them cheating though, the creators were at least opposed to cheating.

Anyways Miz, you should get on IRC and play a couple of games with us. I'm sure the stuff will come back quite quickly ;)

As far as I know none of us cheated in real games.  Did we get accused a lot, sure, but I think it was more a player's own arrogance and not believing they could get beaten so easily without cheats.  I agree with you highlander in regards to no marks.  I found them much more strategically orientated then the High Mark counterparts.  It forced a player to learn.

In no mark games it was more about being able to efficiently move into the different phases of the game from start, mid game, and end game effectively and efficiently.  In no mark games in my opinion you needed to understand how to play the game, what research order was best given the current situation, and so forth.  Where as in a high mark game really it didn't come down to anything other then evening the playing field.  It became less about skill the higher the mark was.  I remember a lot of 1000+ mark (no mark) games being played.

In my experience, it's always whomever gets the weapons first will wipe the floor with the others on smaller maps.  However, what you say holds true for medium sized maps and up.  Piechart is a boarderline map, as people who think like lev do rush through a building order and get weapons as fast as they can.  Meanwhile, other people will think along the same lines you talk about.

Personally, I think small maps should always be mark games, otherwise it's over too quickly to be any fun.

The scout needs to stand still for a few seconds on a tile adjacent to the labs (I don't think a corner works, though).

Hi all,

Elwood here!   :)

Years ago I bought a copy of Outpost at a used software store and got hooked.  So when Outpost 2 came out I bought it right away and have been playing it on and off ever since.  I most enjoy playing colony games because of their unscripted nature and the ability to start a game, play for a little while, save it, and come back later when I have time and pickup where I left off.

I was really pleased to find your forum and so many people who still enjoy this great game.  I've already upgraded to the OPU version of the game and tried the additional colony games that come with it, plus the New Colony Games (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=4734) created by angellus.

My hat's off to the all folks who built this place and work to keep it going.

Elwood

Hey guys,

I'm Andrew, and I've been a fan of Outpost 2 for quite some time. I played it years ago when it was newer (though I wasn't any good) and just picked it up again (although I'm still not very good). Luckily, I stumbled onto this board to find that other people still like OP2 too!
Anyway, I'm 19 year old student at SIUE (Southern IL University Edwardsville), though I'm (pretty much) from Springfield, IL. I'm majoring in Computer Science. Coheed and Cambria is the s***.

It's nice to meet all of you.

Welcome to the boards, Good Apollo.

From your description, I look forward to seeing you around here. You say you're studying CS, so you have high chances of being neatly integrated in our little community. Not that there are a lot of CS people around, but a lot of us hold interest in computers (hardware or software or both, depending on the person).

Hello I am a huge fan of outpost 2, been playing it since I could use a computer, so around 4 years old.

I am 18 years, born on April 4, 1994

I love playing video games for entertainment, but I hate it when people get overly competitive.

I live in California in the desert, where it is hot, dry, and never airless.

I have to say this site surprised me. I never thought that there were still others playing such an old yet classic strategy game as outpost 2.

AFAICT, work is being done on making the XMPP chat room more accessible. I’ve opened a post to present alternate clients and I’m hoping the server would change to something less buggy and more complete.

Hello helpmenow!

I hope, the mysteriousness of your presence here will soon become clearer. Right now I'm just not seeing what you want.

Outpost 2 is about the time after Earth got destroyed by a huge meteor and only a few humans managed to escape to some other planet which they called New Terra. New Terra wasn't exactly Earth and thus they had to stay in their structures and tubes and they also began to terra form the planet. Some colonists didn't like the terra forming and founded another colony called "Plymouth" (the original one being "Eden"). The microbe which was designed for terra forming got out of control and they had to evacuate again.

Greetings Everyone!

I am MegaGamer2010, aka Mega.  Have been playing Outpost 2 for a long time and still really like it.  I would like to some help from someone to make a map for the game as I'm not able to figure out how to use the mapper (not a programmer...).  I'm just looking for something simple and big.  I like to build large cities with no worry of disasters or cliffs, and plentiful mining.  If anyone can help me with this, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi, there, I've read your post. I wondered, does it have to be a new map made by you?? Maybe it would just be enough to start Outpost 2 twice, host your own multiplayer game without disasters. You'd just have to make sure the other colony doesn't die off.
(I'm suggesting this because I don't remember any custom colony game without disasters)

If you really want to have your own map, it would require the Outpost 2 mapper to create a basic map and a compiler for a mission-dll to start and initialize the mission. Of course you can do that, but installing a compiler for that would be a little bit of a hassle.

For that matter, does anyone else still have their Outpost SDK ready who could quickly solve this problem? I still have mine on a different system.

Welcome to the Outpost Universe!

Maps in Outpost 2 are made off two parts, the map file which describes the terrain and the dll file which is for placement of mining beacons, disasters, ai etc.). The mapper is mainly useful to create the map file. It can also be used to generate a source code file for the dll, which will have to be compiled in a compatible environment (i.e. with the SDK). You, as a non-programmer, should be able to create the map file and place mining beacons and units with the mapper. Once you did that I'll happily compile the dll for you.

Thanks for the responses all!

Flashy, thanks for your suggestion.  I have done this a couple of times, and can do this ok, but would rather not have to get two bases up and run all the time, it's a bit stressful...

TH300, I'll see what I can do in the mapper. I have worked with it a few times, but could not understand all that had to be done.  However, with what you have told me, I will see what I can do, and then send you a map file.

Once I have a completed Map, what would I do to be able to play it in game?

Also, I would enjoy playing this game with other people.  I don't personally care for 'Last Man Standing' types, but would play that.  With this game, leisure play is more fun to me.

Post by: Flashy on April 16, 2013, 05:18:03 PM
Well, if it helps, you don't actually have to create a new map file, you can just pick one of the old map files if it is too much for you. Someone with a working mission sdk could generate a dll file for you, which just has have a name that begins with a c  (in order to make the game list it as a "colony game" type) , is not longer than 7 characters (excluding the .dll file extension) and placed in your outpost 2 folder (along with the map file).

Post by: megagamer2010 on April 17, 2013, 02:16:00 PM
Ok, I have made a map file for Outpost 2.  It is very simple and basic as far as the layout.  I have three files in the place where I saved the map file, one is the .map file, one is .map.dat, and the other is one that I made by 'Generating Code' in the OP2Mapper, it is .map.cpp.

(If y'all can help me understand what to do from this point, I might be able to do this myself...)
Title: Master Introduction Thread
Post by: Flashy on April 17, 2013, 05:41:59 PM
It has been a while since I've used the mapper, but as far as I know, the .dat file saves building/unit/beacon information exclusively for the mapper. The .cpp file is a c++ source file that contains aforementioned information ready for inclusion into a dll file. To do it yourself, you'd need some basic understanding of c++ programming and a little knowledge of the Outpost 2 software development kit. If you think it's worth the effort, you can look into sirbomber's helpful tutorials that explain OP2 programming (without explaining c++ basics) http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php?showtopic=4796 (http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php?showtopic=4796)

If you prefer to ask another helpful member of this forum, you'd just have to give the name of your map file and that .cpp file (assuming it contains the start building placements you wish for) and someone could probably do this part for you.

As a little sidenote, you may want to create a new topic for this, I'm sure the others don't mind, but it would take up less space in the introduction thread.

Post by: TH300 on April 18, 2013, 05:11:55 PM
If you can't do it yourself, put the map file and the cpp file into a zip archive and upload it in our file forum (under general interest).

TH300, I am going to read thru the tutorials from SirBomber and go from there.  I will send u a msg and start a new topic once I've gone thru all that.  I'll start it in the Coding sub-forum since that is mainly the issue I have right now.

Hello,

I am a retired Lockheed Aeronautical Engineer.  My birthday is 3 Feb., 1941.

I really enjoyed playing these games when I could afford the time.

Now I've got the time and hope to play them a lot.

My wife and I live above the Columbia river in North Central Washington State.

Look forward to hearing from many of you.

Welcome.

You know, I was looking at a job at Lockheed once, but one of the requirements was a "secret" level clearance, and I don't have the patience to deal with people "losing" the paperwork several times over, heh

Feel free to post questions if you get stuck trying to make it work.  Most of the people here tend to just lurk, but you will get help.

Thank You CK9,
A secret clearance was no problem for me.  When Lockheed offered me the job I was just out of the Navy where I had been serving in submarines.

They were very understanding and supportive.  I was just married and attending night school pursuing my first degree in engineering.

Somewhere I did post a question about getting Outpost 1.5 to work on my PC when it is in Windows Virtual XP mode.

Maybe, you know where I can post that question?

Thanks for the welcome and, in advance, for your suggestion.

I've recently rediscovered my deep love for the game and have gotten back into it. Even introduced a few of my co-workers and friends to the classic.

Maybe I will try to get into this game again, I watched an (unfinished) lp of the game (2) some time ago  and with that also got very interested in the story(which I seem to need to finish myself), maybe I will become competent enough to try multiplayer in the future. I like to play: Stronghold, Majesty and I want to play Conquest of Elysium 3 online once(I also want to try perimeter online). I like roguelikes, and lore/story heavy games(I am currently interested in king of dragon pass)

Hi Outpost_Pete here. Love the Outpost 1.5 game and the revamped work done for the download.(Have played 2.0 but not as enjoyable.) Thanks cause my original disc does not work on current computer! Download version is a little glitch y unless I turn down screen resolution to half. I have always wondered why? Does it have to do with being written for for 1994 - 32 bit computer/now on 64 bit 2016 thing?
Title: Re: Master Introduction Thread
Post by: leeor_net on September 13, 2016, 02:39:32 PM
Welcome!

Outpost was written for 16-Bit computers (specifically Windows 3.1 which never came in a 32bit version). 32Bit flavors of Windows were able to run 16bit code using an emulation core (NTVDM I believe) which was dropped in 64Bit versions.

If you have any issues running the package we put together head on over there and post away, I'll gladly answer any questions you may have.
