Recently I have decided to start production on a new type of game for outpost. This game will be an html based multiplayer game based on Outpost 2. It will be coded in PHP along MySQL for the database engine.
How the game will work is, every one starts off with some ore and population. The choice between eden or plymouth will be available. You are then given a grid of 5x5 to build your structures for your base. After you have researched the appropriate topics and have build a vehicle factory, you will then be able to produce units.
The attack system will also be based on a grid. For the first game I will use a 20x20 grid. The time it takes to attack someone depends on the distance you are from their base. After bulding units, they will either be placed in Squad 1 or Squad 2. You will use a squad to attack or defend your base.
Time will be controlled by the hour. You have all the time in between the hour to submit your orders before they are processed.
Many of the principles in this game will be based on those of Outpost 2. There might be some differences and new ideas incorporated into it.
What do you all think?

Sounds totally sweet !
I was working on a project similar to this where you control a colony and you log in to attend to your colony. Not sure if you have herd about it. I hope to get to work on it again.
Colony Wars (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showforum=58)
I wasn't planing on making mine web based as I don't know that much PHP.
I'm really pleased that you plan on working on this project :D
Personally I've always wanted a civilization type game based in the outpost world where you have a colony on just one grid square but this is not really what your planing on doing.

That would be incredibly easy, actually.

meh, it could be good, could be a disaster, wither way hav fun

Why would you say it could be a disaster? That is not very supportive!
-
Have fun Galactic, I'll be hoping to see something soon. Keep me posted with details.

I appreciate your support guys. I think it will turn out great. I planning on having a test game going in a couple of weeks. I will keep you all posted on it.
-
I hope I will be able to get to look at the code, and I hope you keep some documentation. I need to learn PHP and I wont be doing it at univ till next semester.
Where did you get the idea from for this? Can we see a paragraph explaining the game and outline in more detail please.
So it sounds like its 1v1 or whatever on a small map and one building takes up one grid square and you can have multiple units on a square etc?
-
You are planning to have a dynamic world? Where don't matter if you are connected, anyone can attack you and your colony continues with a predefined set of commands(like Ferion (http://www.ferion.com/?p=310632))?
-
Well, nice idea! (Yes, it's me, back from the disasterous post.)
-
This sounds great! I love browser based MMO's, I'll definetly play an OP2 based one :D
So, good luck with the game! :D
-
Err....nice idea, i'll support it :D would be fun to play some web-based op2 game :D
-
A long, drawn out version of OP2? Well, it's definitely not for me; I've never likes those kind of games.
-
No news galactic?
-
uhh... sorry to ask, but um...
Is this project dead?

i was geting hopeful that i could google "outpost colony wars" and see a huge website and a 198,439,587 thousand on site sign.
but our lack of get-up-and-go hase gotten the best of this progect as well. :'(

The thing is, had this project been started around 1999, you'd see a finished project.
A lot of the good coders here just don't have the time or the drive to do these things, and people like me (that is, those who've played forever but are just learning the coding) have neither the resources nor the time to properly learn everything before we too lose the drive.

I would've loved to make this one, and I think Freeza had ideas haha.
Maybe I could pick it up.. I had a few nice ideas about its implementation. I'd prefer to put my time to OP3 though :/ But this would be a nice small project.
