Title: advice to forumites
Post by: CK9 on September 14, 2004, 06:35:46 PM
"Arguing with the moderators is like shaking your fist at God. There's nobody there; and if there is, he's not listening. And if he's listening, all you're doing is pissing him off."

You forgot to add the bit about:  'and he might spite you' (on the the end of ther above quote)  Which goes the same with pissing a mod off.  the mod will just kick/ban/remove you depending how much you piss them off.

If they do that just for pissing them off....then they shouldn't be a mod...they should only do that if someone's breaks the TOS.

Technically, in the Terms of Service it does state that you should respect the admins/moderators of this forum. Failing to do so, (I.E. Insulting or likewise) can result in a ban.

time to get back on topic.

btw... fyi:

it's no use to argue with a mod / admin because they can inflict whatever punishment they think is appropriate (and there's nothing you can do to stop them)

however, we will usually have some sort of "grace". Notice the warning meter on everyone who is non mod/admin. if someone does something that breaks the TOS their warning level will probably increase. A notice is permanently added to their user records and anyone can view it by clicking the percentage next to the warn meter. They will most likely receive a PM or email as well notifying them of this.

also, a threat of a mod to ban you or add you to the moderation queue is usually a hollow threat because the only people who have real power to do site wide changes are the admins. (correct me if I'm wrong but the powers mods have are the ability to moderate/prune topics, and moderate new topics and posts (made by people on the moderation queue))

just some FYI.

The main thing we can do is warn you or suggest to the admins that they do at least a temp-ban to you.  Of course, it is always fun to beat ya'll senceless

If you get banned for a sec, how do you know you were banned?
Title: advice to forumites
Post by: mustang09-06 on October 07, 2004, 07:26:55 AM
It depends if u try 2 get on at the time u were banned. Wouldn't it?  but even then u wouldn't know for sure cause it would come up with the regular errorr screen that you either typed your password or username wrong.  And if it were only a sec then u would be able to retype and log in.  So you wouldn't know for sure if you were banned for 1 sec.

(Long confusing explanation. lol)  :P
