Okay, here goes:
Debate the meaning of life.
-
Why such a serious topic? Less information flowing around than the Iraq thread.

You don't really need information to debate in this thread. Mainly, it is about your beliefs.
I say the meaning of life is simple (as it is with most creatures):
You want to have a succession. Human nature (along with every other kind of creature) wants to leave something behind. Whether it be an idea, or children, or even a momument to (their) god(s).

BLA!!!!!!
-
The meaning of life is too controversial. How about this topic:
Should Kiler be allowed to become an admin again?
-
The meaning of life is to go to heaven. Too religous? sorry
-
To quote someone, I don't remember who, "The meaning of life is death"
-
If life is created to die, why then is life created? Why not skip all of the "life" part and go straight to death?
Makes you wonder why we are actually here. Are we here to exist? Maybe to change something?
Maybe bring an end to something more advanced than our pathetic minds can understand?
( Is there another force beyond what we can currently understand? )
-
life is a test...
-
Who wants to hear the Christian worldview?

life is a test...
A test of what? Endurance? Survival? Intelligence? Or just a test?
Can one cheat this test?
-
Would there be eternal consequences for cheating?
---philipu2001
-
If so, what would they be? Death?
Is our existance here really existant? Or is it all a dream?
(Matrix theme music begins to play in background)
-
Maybe eternal life in this world, wishing you could kill yourself, but you can't.
---philipu2001
-
Would you want to life for eternity? Survive every disease, every catastrophe.. Would you want that?
I wouldn't. I would like to make a difference, and be remembered for it. That is the same for the entire human population. We wish to continue ourselves. We want to be remembered. If the choice came to live forever, what would the majority of people answer?
-
I meant eternity as a punishment.
---philipu2001
-
You think living forever would be considered a punishment?
In a way, yes. But in a way, no. You could see man grow and fall....
Reminds me of Tuck Everlasting.
-
I saw some of that. Well, if there is no afterlife or god to live for, then the best thing to do in the interest of mankind would be to make a difference.

(200th post)
It is proven that human nature wants to be remembered. It is a given fact. Everyone knows that death is unavoidable, and as such want to be remembered, no matter how socially inept they are.
Are humans destinied for their own destruction?
-
Depends, on if Betaray keeps up the CL-20 thing.

Of course you can cheat on the test. You can cheat on any test. But like every other test, your only cheating yourself. If you cheat on some test in school, you cheat yourself cause you don't learn...know what I mean?
Living forever would suck, you'd get bored after a while.

True.

I concur with the statements made by new-er-bie. Cheating, I know plenty about how it's done, never really done any cheating myself. (That is because as a smart person, some people have tried to cheat off me)
---philipu2001
-
I do not cheat, nor have I. I do not let others cheat off me, either.
-
What do you do, shoot them? Well, maybe nothing that serious. Well, as a wise saying goes, "Eat mor chickin."
---philipu2001
-
No. I just prevent them from access my stuff (I.E. finish a test quickly, and still get an 'A'.)
Back to topic:
Do you believe in fate?
-
Cheating isn't worth it.
1 of my friends always does something stupid and gets caught for it, and when the tell me, it's never worth it.
Fate? What's fate? predestination, yeah I think
-
Shouldn't we be able to shape our own future?
I mean, did you decide what you want to be, or did someone tell you?
-
Well I didn't get to pick if I wanted to be a guy, or my height, race, and all that other stuff. I think things are predestined, like what I'm gonna be, when I'm gonna die, and other stuff, but I have the freedom to do what I want to get there. Like there is a common end, but I can do whatever I want, and then end up there. So I can do what I want, but can't escape the end, if you get me.
-
I see what you mean. You have control over yourself (Like ideas, job, personality) but no control over the other things (age, height, sex).
I can agree with you there, but I think your control over yourself can influence your final date (er... death).
-
Maybe it's my religousness that gets me here. But I always believed that we all have a set date to die. Theres too many people that are so healthy, and something happens. Like you have the healthiest guy, and he's 'supposed' to live for a long time, but then some car hits him, or he gets this rare disease. It's just too weird to be coincidence.
-
well i believe in predestination to a point. I mean if we are given 2 choices like (just out of the blue) to hit someone with something, and we do it, it determines how the rest of the day will unfold. But the thing is that we always have oppertunites to change how the rest of the day will unfold. The choises we make determine which predestination we will get to and like at what time, and where and that stuff. So we can minupulate the predestinations, sometimes for good or sometimes for bad. I mean like if you didnt hit that person youre day would be totally different. If you did hed probable get mad and hit you back. And that would change your day and youd probably remember it and your life would be different after that.
So just basically I think that there is predestination, but we can manipulate it to a point.
